I think he's pretty much right, it's just that Hughes prefers drafted prospects that are closer to making the NHL rather than draft picks. (Barron, Heineman, Smilanic).

And that’s great logic

Not really. He got a 2nd+. Barron was a late 1st whose stock has slipped since his draft. If you traded those assets together you might be able to get pick 32. But that’s not a 1st+. It is fair that you like drafted guys rather than just purely draft picks, but that doesn’t make Barron’s going rate a 1st.

Could you see the habs going for some higher draft picks in recent drafts that just haven’t gotten to what they should yet

His stock hadn't slipped since the draft, it's his stock prior to the draft that slipped because of a medical condition. If healthy, he could have gone around 15th in 2020.

Edit: If they can't get a 1st for that package at the time of the trade, it's because teams prefer their odds in the upcoming draft, for better or for worse. There isn't a trade in recent memory IIRC that was a 1st for a recently drafted first round prospect straight up.

I believe the expectation is that if he wins it would be a portion decided - so it could be 1 mil in dead cap, it could be 0, it could be all 7.

It’s pretty odd is taken this long

Why is it “the” neutral arbitrator? Is there no other person alive that could possibly be a neutral arbitrator? Preferably one that doesn’t go on vacation during the one and only time of the year he’s actually needed?

I almost laughed out loud at this haha.

I'm assuming it's just a typo, if not, ooffff NHL, step up your game a little, get more than one "neutral" guy to arbitrate things.

If Kane wins Sharks go back to owning him I believe as the arbitrator will most likely reinstate his deal

But at least he kind of made it where they can trade him and its not a dump anymore

Bettman believes cap will have a significant climb in 2024-2025

So basically 2 years sooner than what was originally predicted (Originally was 2026)

Either way better than staying the same or only going up by 1mill
