I can’t wait to see all the idiots in the comment sections of editorinleaf and Sportsnet rant about how the players are idiots and should know that Matthews is a bum because he can’t win in the playoffs (dispute the fact that the awards are regular season awards).

Didn’t see makar winning the Norris. Based on the playoffs he’s more than deserving, just thought Jodi had the edge in the reg season

makar was so utterly dominant in the first half (he had like 20 goals by the halfway mark) i wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people made up their minds long before the end of the season. also josi only ended up like 2 primary points ahead of makar, and makar pretty much had better underlying numbers across the board

Does anyone know when the votes are casted for the awards? There could be recency bias with Makar

With Matthews winning the Ted Lindsay it’s for sure he’s winning the Hart.

they’re done before the playoffs, they revealed the finalists like, throughout the first round iirc but even if they didn’t, only the gm of the year award gets voted on after 2 rounds

wow who coulda guessed that 3 of the 4 conference finalists (including the new guy who did the classic GM thing of making bad deals to bring in G R I T and the 2 cup favourites of the group) would be the nominees for gm of the year

Anyone else find it funny that even at the NHL award show, the called the Hart "league MVP"? They really gotta get their ducks in a row on what this award actually is.

isnt the voting done before playoffs or is this voting different than the other award voting.

edit :
Quote:
Currently, all but the Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award are voted on at the end of the regular season.

that's kind of dumb.

I guarentee you there will be an article tommorow on Sportsnet about Makar winning the Norris and every single comment in it will be "ohhh who voted for Morgan Rielly he sucks."

Like he mentioned, GM of the year is after the 2nd round. That's why the finalists are always 3 of the 4 GM's who's teams are in the conference finals.

I'm happy Matthews won the awards. I'd like to say first up that he is not better than McDavid, nor was he most valuable to his team than McDavid this season (technically what the Hart is for but isn't actually), but I still think he deserved the Hart and Lindsay based on how the awards are handed out: they give players who haven't won the award and edge over someone who has.

One thing I won't like about it is the amount of people who will proceed (not on capfriendly, to be fair, but everywhere else) to call the awards "leaf bias" or something.

It was a fairly decisive win. Was surprised at the amount of players who got at least one 1st place vote.

Pretty solid and diverse showing for the Flames now that the awards are done. Finished top 10 in 5 different awards and top 2 in 3 of them (not to mention T-2nd and 8th for Art Ross and 2 guys T-9th and another T-15th for the Rocket).
Jack Adams: Sutter (1st)
Hart: Gaudreau (4th), Tkachuk (T-14th)
Norris: Tanev (T-15th)
Vezina: Markstrom (2nd)
Selke: Lindholm (2nd), Backlund (13th), Gaudreau (T-27th), Tkachuk (T-27th)
Lady Byng: Gaudreau (9th), Lindholm (36th), Kylington (T-55th), Jarnkrok (T-66th)

Shesterkin got absolutely snubbed, how was the gap between Shesty and MacDavid/Matthews that big
