Wheeler being floated around... interesting

I wonder which team will overpay for him? Likely a team that thinks they are 1 piece away from the SC... but aren't.

Montreal says no. Winnipeg probably does too, but I'm not really interested in a 35 YO on a rebuilding team (especially considering the returns remoured for Anderson)

Sums up Wheeler without the puck

0 commitment to defense and apparently bullied Laine out of WPG

8.45mill is not appealing even if WPG retains

I get why this was done. The team did worse under Brunette than Q and I’d argue they were always going to have that regular season success, they utterly failed when it mattered though hence the change. I’m just questioning why they chose Maurice and not someone better

mid? this pick isnt gunna be till the mid 20s. they are still LOADED with talent. this isnt a situation that theyre suddenly going to fall off. the coach just didnt have the X's and O's to be able to get past some of the better teams/coaches.

Nobody would've said that San Jose pick would turn into Stutzle. I'm not saying Florida is going to fall that hard, but I don't expect them to win the presidents trophy next year.

At the start of the season I would not have predicted VGS (16th overall), NYI (13th overall), WPG (14th overall)

Bye Snake. Glad he never won anything with Dallas.

Went from being a fan favorite in Montreal to being hated in a week.

Did worse than under Q? Did you really expect them to win literally every single game 💀💀

There’s no universe where Maurice deserves this job more. He shoulda been fired years ago. He’s only won a playoff series in 4 different seasons, and he’s been coaching for 24 years. He’s quite possibly the most mediocre coach in the league and there’s a solid argument that any success his teams have occurs despite him, not because of him.

Brunette still rallied the team to come back against Washington, and it’s not like he told them to only score 3 goals in the entire series against Tampa. He didn’t even get a training camp and was still the Jack Adams runner-up. The only acceptable hirings here woulda been Cassidy or Trotz imo, because they are established high-end coaches. Maybe DeBoer because he has the track record of quick success despite his shelf life and not actually having a ring. Nobody else, least of all a below average coach with no accomplishments to show for over two decades of coaching.

i think alot of people saw that sjs pick was going to be kind of valuable. the biggest difference is florida isnt losing their leader from the roster. will marchment and giroux leave and hurt their roster a little sure but they are still really deep. if they sent the 2024 pick i think they might be in trouble. but their window will not close next year. their team will be really good next year.

in order for florida to replicate what those 3 teams did. barkov and huberdeau would have to get hurt and their defense would have to be abysmal. Their depth would have to go bone dry as well. this team is simply too talented. vegas entire first line depth chart wise missed over half the season. eichel, stone, patches played less than 40 games each. they brought in patrick he played 25 games. they traded their top goalie away from the year prior and gave lehner the workload and he got hurt.

I see where you're coming from, but Florida went from a WC team to the president trophy winning team with no big acquisitions. Everybody was playing to their potential & Maurice is known to be an underachiever. I think Brunette was undervalued and Florida will regret it.

Now they're losing some key depth pieces and getting a new voice when they didn't need one. I still expect Florida to make the playoffs, but only as #3 in the Atlantic or even a WC team
