Description
Kulak signing may not be necessary, but don't think it's a bad idea to reset Fehervary in a smaller role (he really struggled as the season wore on and dragged Carlson down). Not sure how people feel about Puljujarvi's value, but the Oilers are shopping him so seems like it's not all that high. Also might've gone too cheap on his contract, don't know what he's expected to get. Obviously this doesn't really provide a surefire answer in goal, but Campbell was playing at an elite level pre-injury and was good in the playoffs. Samsonov gets a lot of pressure lifted to find his game again. Other weakness would be at center but there's enough cap room for Backstrom to come back later in the season (especially if they trade Eller first) and also potential for C prospects (Lapierre, Protas, Rybinski) to fill in as needed.

Campbell is gonna get much more than that, even if he stays with Leafs.

Puljujarvi trade is fair. How much money do you think Vanacek will get? No way Puljujarvi gets under 3M too. Probably 3.5M. With Gurianov getting 2.9M, Roslovic getting 4M, I think 3.5M is what he would be asking for.

I would be really surprised if vanacek got anything starting with a 2. I think he established this season and especially in the playoffs that a strong backup/1b who will do just well enough if a starter is injured is both his ceiling and his floor. 1.75x2 is my prediction

Okay thank you. I believe he can be a starter with a team that is stronger defensively. I think he could do well in Edmonton as a starter, but I would like to explore our options a bit more before doing this kind of trade. There are plenty of goalies out there. Mind as well try and get a better one, and if push turns to shove, we can try and work a deal with Washington.

The caps have some guys that are prone to highlight reel mistakes in Carlson, Fehervary, and Kuzy, but their defensive system last year was pretty good overall. I definitely wouldn't have confidence in him being a starter but as a 1b to Smith would be a definite upgrade over Koskinen. Of the 1b/backup types available this summer, he is definitely has the best combo of easily attainable and cheap. If you want someone better than Smith though, you should definitely look elsewhere first
