Great potential. will play one more AHL season this year unless Elvis/Korpi get hurt. Will hopefully be a great backup starting in 2023-2024 season and a great option if Elvis goes down or gets traded.

Term is great and AAV is low enough that he can be stashed in the AHL with no extra charge. No downside here

It's not everyday you see a one-way contract signed by a player who is Waivers Exempt.

when you have a Russian player who has played, and had success, in the KHL, it's always leverage for them to say they can go back if the team doesn't throw them a bone.

Fantastic bridge contract. Actually slightly lower AAV than I had imagined, based on his potential and how (openly) high the organization has been on him.

If he meets his potential, this guy could be a cheap 1B with Elvis in a year. If he doesn't, it's still a very affordable deal for an otherwise solid back-up goalie.

He could honestly be a full time starter for a team by the 3rd year of this contract and his AAV would be lowest in the league that's not an ELC. This contract is nuts

This contract is weird, but it's absolutely perfect for the team.

More like Korpisalo as the Jackets aren't trading there #1 and the Oilers still probably can't afford the 1.3 million price tag for Korpisalo lol

I love this contract, amazing for their future starte. But, I'm assuming Korps has to go, someone has to want him.

Hopefully he shows out after his surgery and someone likes him by the deadline.

Why do I have a feeling he's going to tear up the NHL in goaltending? Really good contract, and CBJ having him with Merzlikins could be a pretty special tandem if things go to plan for them.

I missed this signing back in June, along with the Korpisalo extension in May. Tarasov has played only 4 NHL games, which is why the AAV is so low, but by all accounts I’ve heard he has great potential, so to get him signed for 3 years at that rate and have the option to keep him as a RFA after that will be great for the team if he pans out, and not too much of a loss if he doesn’t, so I think the potential reward greatly outweighs the risk. Having Korpisalo for another year helps too because it means they should have the luxury of not having to rush Tarasov in before he’s ready.

A year after the Kivlenieks tragedy it looks like the Jackets have a solid plan for their goaltending for the next several years.
