Gibson is not worth that, huge cap hit and has performed poor the last 3 years. maybe he plays better in Toronto but you cant give up those assets for a hope and a prayer.

Gibson not going anywahere...

THE ATHLETIC: John Gibson denied a recent rumor claiming he would welcome a trade from the Anaheim Ducks. The 28-year-old goaltender said he first learned of the speculation in a call with his agent, Kurt Overhardt.

“All of the rumors that I got in a call from Kurt yesterday are false because I haven’t had a conversation with anybody there, “ said Gibson. “None of that is true.”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Athletic’s Eric Stephens suggested Gibson, who has a 10-team no-trade clause, could be traded if Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek gets a “blow-me-away” offer. That appears unlikely if the goalie wants to stay put.

Fair value for Gibson, but recent developments make it pretty obvious that Verbeek won't be trading him. The supposed motivation for a Gibson trade -- that he'd asked for it -- has been debunked by Gibson himself.

Him not wanting a trade doesn't mean he wouldn't necessarily be moved. You are right that Verbeek would want a great offer which I think this is and a terrible move for the Leafs especially since the OP thinks the team sucks (Why would you mortgage away your future then?). However, Verbeek would want a great return for Comtois as well, so any team taking the both in the trade are probably in for a gross overpay.

Nah.

Late 1st
Cap dump in Mrazek
Knies = unknown - looks good - but who knows
Sandin = solid prospect/ future piece.
3rd rounder = basically irrelevant

Plus, u r acquiring Comtois in the deal too!

Comtois = Sandin IMO.

I don't think this is a good deal for the Leafs but Verbeek would certainly want to trade both separately to maximize the return

I assumed Comtois is valued somewhere around a late 2nd/ early 3rd. Thats why I tossed in a 3rd. Knies is a top 30 prospect in the league. Sandin should be a top 4 D and Mrazek can probably play similar to Gibson this year.

Comtois doesn't have the best track record either, so the idea of Knies being an unknown as a prospect isn't really valid since that's pretty much the case with all prospects. However, you are right that Sandin+Knies would be only enough for the overpay on Gibson, the Mrazek dump is probably a 3rd since his buy out is so low and worst case no more than a first. So it's either Comtois for a first or third, and I think they would want both a first and second/third for him and probaly like Knies+Sandin+2nd/goalie prospect for Gibson

That might be his value but Verbeek won't sell him at his low, if he does he will need at least a first probably or a good prospect+2nd
