Habs get more then a second for Petry. Detroit won't be willing to pay what it would cost to acquire him

Only on cap friendly you see these kinds of comments
Like Lehkonen, you didn’t want him for a 5th when so delusional Habs fans were trading him

Right so we are paying a 2nd for 3+ more years at 6m+ for a 6D on our team. He goes in behind seider and Hronek on the depth chart, so explain to me again why the wings are paying a 2nd for him and not being paid to take this contract?

First he would be your 2nd best dman being Seider, but let’s ignore that
I know y’all are good with Seider Hronek and Lindstrom on the right side. But you can take Petry for a 2nd, then trade him for a 1st or top prospect + or even retained for a better package

No thanks you can retain and trade him for that. He does not go above hronek on the depth chart at 34 years old and 6M he is not worth a 2nd. We aren't taking a contract for a 2nd in hopes of retaining and moving him for more, that logic is out the window. He is not a fit on Detroit unless we move hronek and that's it. You are so confident then you retain and get your first + if you think it's possible. Wings are out and nobody ever thinks about it from the other teams perspective. We also wouldnt be trading our 2nd that's another good joke here.

Wings pass and good luck getting anything for 34 year old with 3 years and 6+ left

95% of Habs fans don’t know Hronek and Lindstrom so since they know Petry is from Michigan, you will always have Petry to DET trade

I can agree with you there and think that is a fair assessment

Wings absolutely pass. Petry does not make sense for Detroit. We are looking for young players to fit our timeline, not some 35 year old plug.

Petry only gets considered if we have already moved Hronek. Otherwise, what would be the point? Even then, the contract term and amount are a stumbling block to overcome. We did pay a 2nd for Leddy, but he only had one year left, had a lower cap hit, and was younger. Petry, as has been pointed out, does not fit our timeline. To take on Staal, we had to be paid. Petry is better than Staal or Leddy, but also plays on the right and we don't have a need there. We had a desperate need on the left side when acquiring Staal and Leddy. IF we moved Hronek, I would be willing to talk, but I probably don't accept a trade for our 2nd in 2023. Maybe for Washington's 2nd in 2022.

If he was that easy to flip for a better return, then why even involve the Red Wings?

No thx

Exactly the same as Montreal, Detroit is rebuilding.
Whatever rationale a Habs fan would use to rationalize why they would trade away Petry, use those exact words why Detroit wouldn't trade a 2nd for him.

Ex.
Rebuilding clubs dont need over 30 6plus million dollar dmen signed for 3 plus years

Rebuilding clubs value draft picks more

Rebuilding clubs valued high draft picks even more

Rebuilding clubs value cheap 1 year deal vets to flip for draft picks at the deadline

Rebuilding clubs if adding, prefer guys under 30 who can be part of there core for the next 5-7 years

Can we at least acknowledge Petry's 6 (six!) points in 40 games before St. Louis took over and Caufield when on a scoring spree? If Petry really is still a top pairing D, shouldn't he have been more impactful than that?
Detroit already has a middle pairing, offensively-minded, defensively deficient right-shooting D, but he's 10 years younger and $2 million cheaper. No need for Petry. His name is Filip Hronek.

Habs fans really think Petry is Lidstrom when in reality he’s not even Lindstrom
