Stars declines easily. If we could afford Trouba we'd just keep Klingberg. Also we have no use for that high hit merchant, DAL is the lowest penalty taking team in the league.

Why would anyone give a 1st round pick for an average dman who is owed 8m for 4 more years

Dougie Hamilton is average. Teams do stupid things sometimes.

Could be any team, Just thought Klingberg wanted more than DAL wants to give or wanted to test free agency.

Nah, Klingberg wants to stay but DAL can't offer him the contract he's asking.

We have about $5M to spend for that RHD, probably not even that.

Unlikely the Jets move Dubois when the most valuable piece coming back is a late 1st.

dougie >>>>>> trouba by a mile, one mid season in which he broke his jaw doesn’t change that. using the money you save with trouba to overpay josh manson also does not help

Would take the whole kid line to get Dubois, jets have no real interest in late first or tiny right handed defenseman.

I'll do Schneider if Jets include Heinola. What other pieces would you add to the deal?

Dubois needs a Schneider or lafreniere, scheifele could possibly move with out.

Trouba just outproduced Hamilton and Severson at even strength and will be making less than both of them after next season.

Trouba’s value is pretty easy to calculate. Take what Risto got. Take what Seth Jones got. Split the difference. It’s more than what’s being asked for here.

I agree the Manson thing is pretty nonsensical.

But you’re missing the boat on the Hamilton conversation. He’s due 56 mil. Trouba’s due 26 mil. Half of Trouba’s deal is paid off already. Hamilton has 90% of his contract money owed. Trouba just outproduced his scoring rate on a team that didn’t score much 5v5. Real world value edge is close here. And if that’s the case, I think you’d set Hamilton’s trade value a lot higher than a 1st…

Krappo Kakko doesn't have the value Rangers fans think he has because of a couple fluke games.

He’s literally one of the best defensive F’s in the league over the last 2 seasons… his numbers are Cirelli/JEE tier.

Cool. It's pretty easy to do that with low, heavily sheltered ice time. It's just not what anyone looks for if they're moving a young 1C.

Motte is not signing for that little. He'll get 2+ million on the open market, that's a foregone conclusion. If Motte signs for less, the Canucks never would have traded him

Oh nice. So you’ll respect that it wasn’t in sheltered minutes at all.

Funny enough Dubois ended up being more sheltered by comparison.

If you’re going to try to question the metrics at least bring receipts

I said that's fine, I just don't put a lot of weight into fancy stats for an inconsequential player. The main point to take away is that no one is moving a young 1C when the main piece coming back is an unimpressive bottom 6 winger that was healthy scratched in favour of a plug in the playoffs.

You can like him and all, he's just not a desirable piece in a trade for a 1st line player.

Yeah I mean you’re going to have a really hard time evaluating players - particularly defensively if you’re just looking at the box score. Which based on the comments here I’m not sure you’ve taken the time to do more than that. Which is fine, but you’re missing most of the game.
And let’s be honest, The scratching decision more impacts Gallant and his job prospects through next season more than Kakko. The last time a healthy scratch decision really reflected negatively on the player…it was Dubois.

You're missing the entire point. No one cares about his defensive play. It is more than canceled out by his abysmal offensive play. Defense can be taught, scoring can't.

When a team is trading their 1C, they're not looking to pad their bottom six. They want an equally impactful top 6 player coming back.

Kakko doesn't provide that. He may be a worthwhile acquisition for someone in his value tier, but he's not anywhere close to being skilled or impactful enough to return a top 6 player. Let alone a first line player.

Jeez abysmal offensive play let’s take a look…

Kakko: 1.58 points/60
PLD: 1.66 points/60

Seems pretty close bud.

Though in fairness Kakko is scoring goals at a better rate. Can’t teach that…
