Sorry but Dubas would be fired on the spot if he made that trade. Add a 1st and zadina for one of the 2nds and erne but I dont see DET and the Leafs as trade partners in this case.

As a Red Wings fan, That doesn't even get 1% of William Nylanders value.

Regardless of value, Nylander isn't a good fit in Detroit. We're still a rebuilding team and aren't going to spend multiple assets for one player and especially not a winger.

Nylander should be dealt to a team that have the supporting cast in place to get full value from him before he becomes an UFA.

You can get more. Probably should swap Suter for a winger, though. Detroit is very shallow at center unless they make a FA splash, so would probably overvalue Suter in a trade until that happens. For the same reasons, we would rather trade for a forward.

I think Detroit lacks star players and if we can upgrade without giving up the farm it is time to do so. If this specific trade was offered, Detroit would be foolish to pass. Eventually a deep prospect pool either needs to develop some actual stars or get moved for great players. Detroit has a lot of good wingers, but very few great wingers. We are so afraid to move the middle six wingers or draft picks for better players, but we are never winning a cup with Bertuzzi as our clear best winger. Vrana can be (at least offensively) when he is healthy. Raymond could develop into that. Zadina is getting less and less likely. Berggren still has a lot of work to do to round out his game whether he makes the roster or not. Soderblom is intriguing, but has a long way to go. If you can grab Nylander while keeping these guys you absolutely do it, especially if we also keep our first. Raymond and Seider give us hope, and Edvinsson could be another one, but we need more players to not just stick in the NHL but hit big.

Detroit would take this and run. This is a horrible deal for Toronto.

For Nylander. Toronto would want a skilled forward with term on a much cheaper cap hit. Robby Fabbri would absolutely need to be in there. Then Detroit would need to add one of our good young players. One of Berggren, Veleno, Rasmussen would need to be in there and those picks would stay. The price is high.

Detroit receives William Nylander.
Toronto receives Robby Fabbri, Joe Veleno, 2022 2nd DET, 2023 2nd DET.

Then when you consider Nylander is a UFA at the end of his deal... Not a good idea for Detroit.
