No reason to go after Parise. I could see them looking at Varlamov, not sure what the package would be though.

Toronto shouldn't trade Nylander for Miller straight up, and especially not give up draft spots to do so.

If you're going to sign Subban to scratch Sandin you're probably better off trading him. Or at least trading Holl, you don't need 8 defencemen. Also, don't sign Subban.

Knies also won't be available until the end of the season at the earliest since he's going back to school. He was also a second round pick last year, so don't assume he's ready for top-6 minutes even when he does sign.

Parise is kind of like our Jason Spezza lol. He’s not moving.

Based on the Darcy Kuemper trade, I think the isles can get a lot for Varly despite his age.

There's no reason for the Leafs to add a 1st. Nylander has more term, is younger and is an excellent offensive player. If Miller were to be traded to the Leafs, you're getting his last year and what's he going to want the following season? 7.5-8M?

If I had to guess that trade is based on the “Summer of Kawhi” rumors. But I agree that moving Nylander and a first for Miller is poor asset Managment.

Yes but MAF got no return last year. Now, not the same situation, but Varlamov is not Kuemper either (he hasn't been a full-time starter and hasn't played 50 games since he was in Colorado) . If he's coming at full cap hit, I can't see them getting a ton, since he's the most obvious piece for the Isles to move in order to gain some cap space.

He also has the NTC which will limit his market (if he chooses to be moved). I think he makes a ton of sense for Toronto (and Toronto makes sense for him if he wants a big UFA payday next summer), but I don't think it's anywhere near Kuemper level.

Varly not starting a ton of games in NY is a positive imo. Less wear and tear on his body. MAF was a deadline deal and Kuemper had laid an egg in the playoffs. Someone will be willing to give up a first or a good lefty d man for him.

I fully expect Lou to keep Varly unless he gets a lot tho. The way I think of Lou is this. He’s gonna be want a lot for Mayfield cause he plays a premium position. And he’s gonna want a lot for Varly since him and Soroky r BFF’s. I’ll happily continue to pay Varly if it keeps Soroky happy lo.

Fleury got moved from Vegas to Chicago last year for "future considerations" in the offseason. Cap dump move but the guy had just won a vezina.

Everyone wants a lot for their players. Not saying he has to trade him, but it seems a waste of cap space (that he needs to improve the team) to spend 5 million on your backup goalie. As a Leafs fan, almost every move Lou has made has hurt us down the line, so there's also that. Maybe Varlamov works better as a deadline move when there's less salary owed, but it still seems like a waste.

I think the Fleury deal happened cause he threatened to retire. Also the same team that traded Fleury for nothing went out and traded for Evgeni Dadanov lol.

I get what your saying and IK why I might seem unreasonable to you. But every game of the WCF all I could think about was that if Edmonton had a guy like Varly they would’ve stood a chance. Dude went to back to back conference finals for a reason. Also doesn’t hurt that you got Kuemper melting down against Tampa which will make Varly look better to opposing GM’s.
