    Lucic + 2023 1st for Mahura I'd do

Not sure if that makes sense for CGY

I would have no issue with that really. Calgary can't not pick in the 1st round too many years in a row, would hope they could go 2nd and a good prospect but if the first was necessary I don't think I would have an issue. Tough to sell a prospect to a team with such full cupboards

I would be more than happy to make this deal, add Monahan and a 2nd in any of the next 3 drafts as well?

Being in-division doesn't help the cost either, I dont think a second would get it done, we have 7 seconds over the next three drafts already

The more I hear about Monahan this off season the more I have a hard time believing the Flames are moving on from him. I think the bite the bullet on one more year at his cap hit and then try bring him back in a middle six capacity for a lesser cap hit next off season. He's a great guy in that room, keeps Johnny happy, if they can get him in the 4 - 5 cap hit for 4 ish years on his next deal and he can get back to even 20-25 goal I am just fine with that.

Does Kylington get the ball rolling on a Mayfield deal?

I think it depends on where the Isles are in their LD2 search. I get the vibe that they'd rather trade futures or from their forward group to fill that hole than swapping out RD for LD and just creating another hole (they've really got nothing in the system to replace Mayfield). I could see it being a path they go down if the other options disappear or get too rich for their tastes, though - if it's Kylington's RFA rights for Mayfield, I think Calgary throws in a mid-rounder or a lottery ticket prospect to make up the cap hit difference but nothing crazy like that.

Kind of how I pictured the deal in my head too, Kylington is heading to arbitration and Calgary moves him before it gets to that. At this point with the way Kylington's service time works out he's an UFA 2 seasons from now so in my mind wherever he signs this season it's a one year deal for less than 2M so he expires as an RFA and can sign long term after next season. I think Calgary is getting a better fit for their system in Mayfield but are giving up controllable years and offensive punch. I don't hate the idea of a lottery ticket RD prospect getting thrown in from Calgary.

I'd take a third rounder for Stanley, but I could see the Jets getting a second rounder based solely on his size. There have been rumours that the Jets got calls on him.

Like I said, I don't think it's the worst idea, I just think that if LD2 can be figured out without creating a hole at RD3, I'd prefer it. I'm sure you could create a 3rd pair out of Robin Salo/Grant Hutton/UFA TBA (Lyubshkin? Braun? Rutta?) but I think you wind up leaning on your top 2 pairs for 45 minutes a night if you wind up doing that.

The jets cap probably pick up a mid 2nd for Stanley based on his size, age, and contract alone

The Avs pretty much rely on their top 3 defenseman and shelter everyone else. Manson has been getting 14 min TOI and Toews, Makar, and Byram have all been playing 22+ min.

Mayfield is one of the isles few assets with positive value, using him in a trade to get younger and faster would be a good idea IMO. Pelech-Pulock, Kylington-Dobson should be playing 45 a night. That would be best for the team. Salo-Lybushkin would be a good 3rd pair.

I think I'm just scarred by the amount of depth they had to rely on this year, gotta remind myself that COVID will (hopefully) not be knocking as many guys out of the lineup as it did this year and that Andy Andreoff is in the past and can't hurt me anymore.

I do think that picking up Kylington (or Girard) makes moving Josh Bailey an absolute necessity - and moving him without retaining or buying him out. I hope Seattle is as open for business as their reporters have been saying they are!

Why not give Mackey or Valimaki a shot? Same thing with bringing back Gudbranson over Mayfield, I bet we could easily sign him to that same contract to fill the exact same role. Just feels like the wrong focus on needs. tbh Stanley is the only one that I would really want of that group

Mayfield's cap hit this year is $1.45M - I don't think Gudbranson comes back under $3M tbh. There's only one more year on the Mayfield deal but I think you take the gamble that the cap goes up enough to give him the same $3-3.5M next summer that you would've given Gudbranson this summer, and use your flexibility to figure out how to pay Gaudreau/Tkachuk/Mangiapane if you can keep all 3.

Completely unbased, in my own head only opinion but I think Valimaki has fallen completely out of favour in Calgary since his little Sutter feud in the AHL this season. It shouldn't effect the player and development but I think they jumped on signing Mackey to fill the bottom pairing this coming season. I think he's the first piece moved this off season.
I do think Gudbranson comes in at more than Mayfield, statistically that's a career year for him analytically and standard stats. I think a team desperate on the right could pay him more than Calgary would be willing to. I would love to have him back between 1.5 and 2 for two years if it lowers the cap hit but look at what Edmonton has in terms of cap issues this year because of 1 year too many on deals. Keith, Foegele, Ryan, Smith all off the books would pay for Evander Kane.
Stanley is one of my favourite targets this off season, low cost, replaces Zadorov's edge with less mind blowingly strange pinches in the neutral zone.

Im very confident Gudbranson will come back on a deal of 1.5M or under for multiple years. He's played for 6 different teams in the past 4 years. He's married now and has a 2 year old daughter. This is the first team he's ever been on and actually fit in really well. Calgary has no one in the pipeline to immediately to replace him so he has a place and he probably would like to settle down for his family

I get that he might take a lower AAV in return for stability, but I can't see him going from $1.95M this year to sub-$1.5M on a long term deal after he literally has the best season in his career to this point (most GP, most points, best possession numbers in the 11 seasons he's been in the league!) I think he could push $3.5Mish on the open market - if guys like Tucker Poolman, David Savard, Nikita Zadorov, and Derek Forbort are all signing in the $2.5-3.5M range last summer, why wouldn't he be around that level too?

Oh he could 100% push for a bigger deal on the market elsewhere but look how far into his career he is, is that really what he wants? Here's how I see it, he's been doing that for a while and his contract always gets moved around when it becomes an inconvenience. I genuinely think he will put his family first here. I think he would prefer to stay somewhere he is wanted, enjoys playing for, and can give him success. I don't see him prioritizing money at this point in his career

I don't see him prioritizing money at this point in his career

true, but there's "not prioritizing money" and "taking a deal that gets everyone else in the NHLPA to stare daggers through you" and I think taking a pay cut from under $2M would be that. He could also push for an NTC if he's that concerned about stability - I mean, if Patrik Nemeth can get one I'm sure he can get one too.
