Description
Necas trade- not sure where his value is. I figure a 2nd and 4M in cap space is a good starting point?

Edler- Seems like a good fit on a team looking for stop gap LD. Could give him AAV and ice time.

Holbty- Any decent, short term backup.

Assuming this is in response to the Necas trade: I don’t know what his value is. Saw a Canes post with Necas for a 2nd so I figured I’d add the cap dump.

He's worth around a 1st+ imo. But i doubt the canes would just sell him off like that. They'd trade him for a major roster upgrade like a Fiala or someone similar.

I dont think they use him to move Gardiner they can buy him out. Necas is hard to value, Id assume Carolina wants win now pieces more than futures which is about all we have.

This is too low. Doubt Necas goes for a first or whatever futures he might be worth. Probably Necas plus to upgrade or canes just keep him.

There’s been other deals centered around Necas for guys like bertuzzi or garland but don’t think those work too well and are more lateral moves which again don’t make sense for canes at least

I get that. The idea here would be this move is made with the knowledge that Carolina goes after or after they land one of the big FAs this year like Gaudreau or Forsberg. I’d consider Necas and a cap dump for a pick and Forsberg a win now move. Maybe it’s a trade made after FA opens and Carolina already has a deal in place?

I get what you’re saying to an extent but Necas is far from a cap dump, just wouldn’t use that terminology at all.

Necas isn’t the cap dump, Gardiner is the dump. Necas is the cost of dumping him with Detroit adding a pick to balance the values out.

Necas is in the same boat as Zadina, in my opinion. Canes fans are going to want value based on his potential, not by how he's performed lately. Probably not an easy middle ground to reach here.

Ah my fault - misread that. Still Necas is way more valuable than what it costs to dump Gardiner even with the pick coming back. Gardiner will cost a 3/4 rounder at worst.

Eh not quite. Necas has a couple good seasons (one really good season) and one so so year. Zadina hasn’t ever done anything. Canes fans just don’t want to sell low after one so so year where he was still .5ish ppg player. Either package him in an upgrade move or keep him and look for a bounce back.

Not saying their value is similar, just the situation. Necas has been the better player for sure, but trade offers are probably going to be lowball because of perceived lack of development."
