why are people voting for the habs? it cost Vegas a 2nd to dump Dadonov in march but now it isn't costing them anything

Anderson is "high demand" according to Friedman.

MTL has way too much wingers to start the year. Maybe Hughes plan to accept a trade for Anderson at the draft

Genius idea!

A: people on this website aren’t a huge fan of Vegas
B: Habs fans who probably just voted for their team
C: Dadanov will have some actual value come TDL assuming he doesn’t slip, Montreal could get something back in return

Both teams get something good but Habs win. This most likely means a winger is getting moved this off-season as we have a logjam there and Dadonov has 1 year left, at the TDL with 50% retention he could get a decent pick/prospect. Vegas also clears Dadonov’s deal and get LTIR shenanigans

Because Dadonov won’t be a cap dump to us, he has 1 year left and is still a decent player. We can easily flip him at the TDL for some assets thus making it Shea Weber for assets

If you make up a future injury for every trade, none would every be made...

Just trade him back BEFORE he get that hypothetical injury. I'm pretty smart.

That's why you get the pick as part of the return.

Not a HYPOTHETICAL flip at the TDL

You never know what could happen. Guy can get injured. Guy can play bad.

That's why it's a Vegas W

Just a side node, Montreal is now subject to $857k in recapture penalties if Weber decides to retire before his contract ends. Not sure why he would, but just throwing it out there.

Nashville would still get hit with Weber's full cap hit in recapture penalties if he retires early.

No you can't lol. Most trades are getting picks back as a return. You're not getting any picks back in the trade.

You're basing the value off a hypothetical flip at the deadline. Not by the actual return of the trade.

It will be interesting to see if both Dadonov and Nyquist are available at the deadline and how one’s availability impacts the other. They have similar contracts, production, and playing styles.

I think it ok trade, but the canadiens have a little space in salary cap. So we will see. They need more improvement in the roster in my highly opinion.

How negative are you when your biggest argument against getting a 20G/40pts player for nothing is
"Draft picks can't get injured"...

So you would not trade a pick to get Crosby BeCaUsE hE cOuLd InJuReS hImSeLf! This is a next level **** argument...

Go search for Dadonov last serious injury. I'll wait.

For the people going on about how the Ducks were getting 2nd with Dadonov keep in mind that happened at the trade deadline when Vegas needed cap space or they couldn't ice a full lineup while in a playoff race. That's a different market than the offseason when teams can exceed the cap by 10%. Overall I like this for MTL, they get a slightly overpaid 20 goal guy that they should be able to flip at the TDL, and if he performs as wells as the last cap dump they got from Vegas (Tatar in the Pacioretty deal), the return might be impressive. Vegas gets immediate cap flexibility, but LTIR isn't a cure for their cap issues.

If all goes well, Dadonov could be a great TDL asset (probably will fetch a 2nd IMO). As such, I think the Habs won the trade.

The trade is fine value for the Habs in a vacuum but disappointing given what the Ducks would have got for taking on Dadynov at the deadline (and they were able to dump Moore in that deal as well). Still voted fair deal.
