Filling some holes

Created by: FilthyMitts0505
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 16, 2022
Published: Jun. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Conor Garland would be a great addition to the devils top six group. I think they would be a team to downgrade from their pick as they have selected top 10 in four of the last five drafts.

Dickinson hasn't panned out to what we were hoping for so i think a buyout could be an option so we aren't paying assets to get rid of him.

Justin Shultz is a relativly cheap short term option for the RHD slot. He can add to the bluelines scoring which has lacked in the last few years and adds some veteran leadership to the squad.

Drafting Nimec would fill our future need for a top 4 RHD and if Filip Johanssen can get back to his regime from when he was drafted thats another really good option.

Curtis Lazar is a good option to replace the hole created in the bottom six by the absence of Tyler Motte.

NJD
  1. Garland, Conor
  2. Klimovich, Danila
  3. 2022 1st round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Canucks can trade up and get the 2nd overall pick in order to draft one of the solid and highly touted RHD. Simon Nimec seems like the best option and is ranked top 5 on Peter Baracchinis draft rankings.
2.
VAN
  1. Benson, Tyler [RFA Rights]
3.
VAN
  1. 2023 7th round pick (VAN)
ARI
  1. Pearson, Tanner
Additional Details:
We get our origonial ( i cant spell ) pick back and gain some long-term cap flexibility.
4.
VAN
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. Studnicka, Jack [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
There has been lot's of speculation of Debrusk to Vancouver over the years. I think this is a time where it could make a lot of sense. Jack Studnicka is right shot forward who could fill in for the hole left by dickinson on the third or fourth line. He is also a young player with lots of potential.
BOS
  1. Horvat, Bo
Additional Details:
I say we decide to keep J.T Miller on the team long-term. He will likely get a Zibanejed contract comparison so around 8 mil long-term. This leaves very little room for when Horvats contract expires. He will get somewhere between 6.5-7.5 AAV on his next contract which will be very difficult to manage. He fills the 2nd line center position on Boston very well.

Can't imagine 2 is in play with Vancouver if it's not Demko or Quinn.

But who knows.

Devils laugh and say no

Is the value way way off? What needs to be added?

Devils don't need quantity and things needed, they need focused quality, plain and simple. But has to match the age range (I get the DeBrincat talk for that), but someone like JT Miller isn't peaking when this roster does, and Garland isn't high enough talent to be the big focus.

Ok I guess that makes more sense.

Ain't no way they'd trade Horvat for a version of himself that is worse, a winger, and had issues with his team, all to get a bottom 6 player.

I believe there was interest in Garland, but for Zacha+

Cannot imagine the #2 would be in play unless Demko is coming back.

Trouble with trading 5m Garland, is the Devils can spend 5m on sign a equal UFA without giving up the second overall. Or in the Devils cases, spend 10m on Gaudreau and keep the 2nd overall pick.

Highly doubt Miller is gonna sign long term with the Canucks. And even if he does, a player starting a 7 or 8 year tea at age of 30 doesn't sound too appealing

Demko is still worth more than the 2OA, it would be for 2OA+

Pearson is not a cap dump

Dermott is worth way more than Benson

That's an insulting offer for Bo Horvat

Demko aint moving despite reports that they "should" and if zacha doesnt get a QO he could get scooped for free, not saying he will, but if he doesnt...

I think you missed my point.

It's that those are the only two assets on your team I would guess the Devils would move the pick for. Not that the trade is 1 for 1.

That boston trade is actually pretty interesting if the bruins know, and like his extension number.

You think everything is awful for vancouver, and every player on the team is worth unprecedented levels of trade value.

No I don't, you're just making a general accusation without enough evidence to support your claim. You always want to try and make other users here feel insecure, everyone else has figured that out about you already in case you didn't know

A top 6 C is worth much more than a middle 6 winger (that the Canucks don’t need) and meh prospect

I’ll use 20 years of evidence, and you’ll just say a long winded version of, “nope. Doesn’t matter!”

Don't bother arguing with him, he just wants to create a toxic environment through verbal escalation

You also talked about how the Bruins would do it if they knew what he wanted for an extension and liked it. So in that case he would be coming with an extension, so it would cost way more. At least a 1st round pick added, if not more

When you look at the recent deals that are made, with an extension sorted out so shortly thereafter that it had to have been discussed beforehand, it really hasn’t increased the value much.

Maybe a second. Definitely not a first.

Horvat is definitely worth more than a 2nd and middle 6 winger. At recent deadlines, Nick Foligno, Kyle Palmieri, and Barclay Goodrow returned 1st round picks. JG Pageau returned a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick. Blake Coleman returned a 1st and recently drafted 1st round prospect
