He said Young Defenseman, not good young defenseman. Also Philly allowed more goals than even the Sabres this season, so I guess Provorov can't defend either which wouldn't make their defense better.

They already have Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson and Bryson on the left anyway, along with Johnson in the pipeline. If he was a RD he would be a better fit.

Usually when you go for the tank you sell assets high

Provorov is worth that package alone
Konecny is worth more than that
A pair of 3rds should be enough to drop JVR, should be enough to get teams to retain on him and flip him in a deal that gets you a better return as well.

I’d say all 3 deals highly favour your opponents

Value aside, the Sabres just wouldn't be looking at paying a premium for any left d help.

Feel free to take a peep at who our goalies were this past year.

Um, Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power, Mattias Samuelsson and to a lesser extent Henri Jokiharju, Jacob Bryson and Casey Fitzgerald. All young, all under team control for 3 or more years at a caphit under like 12 million total.

Jerry said look at the GK's last year:
Michael Houser ECHL GK
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen un proven young GK
Craig Anderson 40 yo over the hill GK
Dustin Tokarski 32 yo GK with 76 NHL games and 42 of those the last two years with Buffalo
Aaron Dell 33 yo GK with 126 NHL games.
Malcolm Subban 28 yo GK traded to Buffalo for Future Considerations with 86 NHL games.
So Buffalo gave up fewer goals than the Flyers who had significantly better GK's of Hart and Jones and based on your thoughts also had better defenders.

Buffalo's young Defensemen:
LHD
Power 18 yo first OA
Dahlin 21 yo first OA
Samuelson 21 yo 32nd OA
Ryan Johnson 20 yo 31st OA
Bryson 23 yo
RHD
Jokiharju 22 yo
Fitzgerald 24 yo

In contrast the Flyer defensemen:
Ivan Provorov 24 yo
Travis Sanheim 25 yo
Rasmus Ristolainen 26 yo
Keith Yandle 34 yo
Justin Braun 34 yo

So Buffalo had young inexperienced defensemen playing in front of old or AHL GK and gave up fewer goals then the Flyers who had better GK and more experience defenders.
So when
@BuFfaLOFaN
@Funksoljah
@littlejerryseinfeld
sabres89
say "Buffalo has young LHD and sub standard GK, will not trade for Provorov" maybe you should listen to them, instead of trying to convince Buffalo fans who know their team better than you know the Sabres.
When the oldest signed defender is 22 yo, it is not that Buffalo will not need help on defense, just not LHD help.
Olofsson may very well be traded for a RHD, but certainly not a LHD.

EDIT:
https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-predictions-standings-stanley-cup-awards-2021-22/
The Hockey writers predicted Buffalo to be last and the Flyers to make the playoffs.
https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/the-2021-2022-nhl-standings-as-predicted-by-oddsmakers
While the Flyers will miss the playoffs they will be close.
The Sabres by far the worse team in the east.

Yeah IDK where the comparison to Philly came from, our defense is terrible. The mind blowing part was when a Buffalo fan says they don't need anymore good young defensemen. The Sabres have been sieve defensively for the better part of a decade, and yes, maybe you start in 2022-23 to have a better defense, but I think it's extremely naïve and irresponsible for a team like the Sabres say they don't need any more good young defensemen. You have an entire d corps that has played less games than Justin Braun combined, you certainly aren't experienced and just hoping for potential to pan out. Good luck with all of that, seriously, i'm just saying the Sabres aren't a team that should be scoffing at getting good young because they have a lot of young guys that may or may not be good in the future.
