The Future

Created by: pensfan21
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2022
Published: Jun. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A combination of moves from this offseason and next offseason. This is if we decide to do a semi-rebuild and wait to fully contend for a year or two. I think this would set us up well for the future, but it is only a hypothetical that's not likely.

What do you think about Jarry and a 4th or 5th (or Kapanen) this year for an Oilers first round 2022 and Jesse Puljujarvi (I wouldn't wanna do two first rounders? I suggested a Jarry trade to oilers and got shut down in the comments lol

    A few disclaimers
•Jarry won’t be traded. This is what I would do if I were gm but there is just no way he gets dealt
•this is also assuming MAF will come back for 2 years which is not a given

Is it were me I would want a player that can have an impact right now and enough picks to trade up to *somewhere*. So if you gave us puljuarvi as the player, and a bunch of picks. How many picks would be the logical question. I don’t know. It is about where does Hextall want to go. Does he want savoie at 7? Mateychuk at 11? Does he want to try and get into the top 10 of next years draft which is much stronger?

I guess the trade would probably be

Jarry —> puljuarvi, 2022 first, conditional 2022 second (becomes a first if Jarry re-signs)

May seem like a steep price but that’s what it takes to get a two time all star goalie who has a cheap aav at the young age of 27

The UFA rights to Brett Kulak would be a nice little bonus as well (he can play the right side too, right?)

Another note: Jarry would probably be worth more to you guys as a trade for him wouldn’t require Skinner going the other way like it would in most other cases due to our strong goalies prospects

As a Pens fan, I'd take it right away. There's no time hesitate about it.

Of course but the 21st OA pick is coming back though

So the Marino value here is the difference between the 21st and 7th OA pick

Remember that Chabot was drafted 18th OA and that we initially had the 18th OA pick in the 2008 draft but traded up to get Erik Karlsson

It could be a very good gamble. Get a player we need NOW and rely on our drafting team to pull something out of their hat at 21st.
