Making the big swings

Created by: Tbrew

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2022
Published: Jun. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Isles: y’all probably aren’t realistic. Just needed to designate a trade with that player happening more than anything

Johnny G May command more on the market, but maybe there’s a hometown discount that could make things work?

I don’t see this is a realistic offseason in a whole, but maybe one or two of these splashes may happen? If they all happen though, this is playoff team on their way to a deep run

You all were honestly just the lucky choice. I do see it as a pretty typical Lou move, but I didn’t put much thought into the return or anything like that

Kuokkanen would likely end up buried in the minors on the Blue Jackets so doubt they would look at trading for him.

Leafs aren't interested in smith's perceived value. Sandin will cost a significant nhl piece.

Made a few clunkers near the end of his time with NJ, and that’s really all the justification I have to bring in Tatar lol
Personally it’s not a deal I would make, and I think he stays in NJ anyway. Still provides some solid impact on the ice, but clearly is on the tail end of being a reliable scorer

Well the other major part is cap space. But I’d just offersheet instead then 🤷🏻‍♂️

There is little cap space to be had and and you can't offersheet him if he's signed. The value isn't terrible it's just not what the leafs are looking for.

I meant more of cap space for the leafs. If he gets a contract, obviously that’s a totally different story, but it’s easier to just walk away if the price is much higher, and either offersheet with the 2nd round comp or keep Smith

Why would it be that high? Sandin is looking at 2m or less. He's played 80 or so games.

To pricee Toronto out of matching. If there’s a team who has an attractive enough roster AND the cap space, it’s NJ. Or they’re at least one of them

Sandin is under contract. There is no reason to believe that he will be available for an offersheet.

He does not have a contract. He’s an RFA this offseason.

Pens pass. Fair offer, but the whole point of moving Marino is to open a spot for POJ this year and shed salary to improve our 2nd line. Severson makes the same as Marino so that kills the salary part and he blocks POJ as well which kills the 2nd part. Not to mention Zacha is going to want at least the 3 per he made last season and I don't think he's all that high on Hextall's list of 2nd line wingers.
