Probably have to find Comrie a little more dough for that term, probably have to out term a few teams for those two free agents, I like the idea and this build. Not sure Sanford is coming back. I would add in strome and domi, if kadri and trocheck don’t come, possibly a little cheaper options. Not as certain, but any ufas signing up for Winnipeg, needs to have a little bit of gamble on both sides. Hopefully trotz brings some players wanting to play there, if he signs on to coach.

Detroit declines.

We're happy to pay a 3rd for Schmidt but the 2nds we have will be used to refill our prospect cupboard.

Zero chance Detroit pays that for Schmidt.

It seems like I'm in the minority of Wings fans, but I have no interest in giving up any assets for Schmidt. I'd be far more inclined to take on Petry, despite his age, if it were a choice between the two and the prices weren't all that different.

With what Montreal wants for Petry it isn't worth it if they were asking for a reasonable price he would've been moved at the TDL. A 3rd for a stop gap dman isn't so bad.

The reasoning behind getting Schmidt is that Yzerman won't bank on one of the Kids making it out of camp and therefore will sign two veterans this summer. In that scenario we need two very different players. We will need one defensive defender that's a good puckhandler and good enough to be paired with Hronek and cover for his deficiencies (Pettersson is perfect for that job). That leaves the second veteran the jobs of being the offensive one that can QB our 2nd PP as well as being a partner for Seider and mentor him. Schmidt would be a good fit for that job.

Another option for that position is Martinez but with his injury and him not being as good on the PP and also Schmidt's ability to play both sides I'm putting Schmidt ahead in that race.

Schmidt is also a great personality and leader for a young Red Wing team mostly why i think Steve would be interested

Im not the biggest fan of Comrie(on the ice) not alot of faith that he can be a legit NHLer. Agree with the rest
