Holtz and Slafkovsky will probably be as good as DeBrincat. Why give up 2 for 1? Devils aren't in a rush.

We have no need for a LHD. With Siegenthaler and Hughes coming up we‘re probably set for the next decade. And I‘m not yet really to lose faith in Smith as well, but that‘s just me.

Hawks reject, per Pierre LeBrun Hawks want a young player, high draft picks and top prospects. at least 5 total assets coming back to Chicago or they say no.

I think what you’re saying is certainly possible but expecting 2 players to score 35 goals a year for 5 years straight is a little lofty.

I disagree with your impression of the Devils timeline. They have a nucleus that should allow them to compete for a playoff spot now; adding 2-3 difference makers should propel them into cup contender status. Not to mention, there is a 50/50 chance that #2 pick is moved in a deal similar so I’d probably prepare myself to be disappointed in real like if this is your take on the deal.

Hughes is like 2 years away.

You’re not going to see a trade for either player where you look at it and say, “wow, that was an even trade for both sides”. It just won’t happen.

Well, sir, there aren’t many teams able/willing to move a top #2 overall draft pick so, yeah you can go get a #28th overall pick and 4 other pieces so you can reach your “5 asset” quota and they still won’t equal the value of the #2 pick in the draft AND a prospect like Holtz.

He might. But you got 4 defensemen that are in the last year of their deals. I would bet a significant amount that Severson alone, doesn’t play for the Devils after this season.

I count 5 assets so, according to his theory it’s a deal. 🥴

2 out of those 4 are RFA‘s and are 100% resigned so I don‘t know what you‘re trying to make up here..

I’m not trying to make up anything besides it being conceivable that a team acquiring a top 4 defenseman with term on a team friendly deal when they have at least 2 starting defenseman potential leaving in a year isn’t a terrible move.
