Letting Newhook grow into 2C

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Avs trade for Kerfoot (or similar) to provide additional center depth. Newhook gets surrounded by strong play driving wingers (Nuke/Lehkonen). If he’s not ready for bigger minutes, Kerfoot/Compher can platoon duty 2C (with Landeskog/Rantanen shifting down the lineup if needed).

Kulak is interchangeable with any defenseman that can PK on a bottom pairing.

Kuemper can be swapped out with Husso (etc) for cheaper if need be.

Didn’t bother much with the AHL lineup, but imagine most RFAs are qualified.

Kerfoot, Compher, and EJ expire at the end of the season to make room for large MacKinnon, Newhook, and Byram extensions.

I like this idea A LOT. Kerfoot, Haula, Namestnikov, guys like that are the perfect addition for next season. Avs can spend enough on a decent 3C for the one season only. Newhook becoming 2C is the key for an extended window. If he doesn't pan out, Sakic will be scrambling to adjust under very tight cap numbers.

$3m for Kulak as 6D is too much with EJ still on the roster.

Could always replace him with Lyubushkin, Gudbranson, or Jack Johnson for cheaper.

That said, I think Kulak at 3M is much more realistic for that role than Manson (which is frequently done here). Whoever plays on the bottom pairing with EJ is going to be primarily a PKer that plays up the lineup during injuries.

I have no problem with the Kulak signing, he'd be fine, just the aav makes it unrealistic.
