Swinnys offseason

Created by: swinny
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 16, 2022
Published: Jun. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For those that want Roberston on the team: I see another year with the Marlies..... needs a full year of playing before I would say he makes this team.

Opting to carry 8 D - organizationally not the deepest position.

If injuries occur up front, Robertson, Steeves, Abruzzese and Douglas would be my call ups, in that order.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Thompson, Logan
Additional Details:
Leafs pay for a young backup/split timer for Campbell. Has the game and tools to be a #1, but is buried in Vegas.
VGK
  1. Kase, Ondrej [RFA Rights]
  2. Woll, Joseph
Additional Details:
Vegas is always in win now mode, and needs to be looking to round out the forward core - and Kase's season with he Leafs had him priced out in Toronto. For Vegas, they get a highly effective 3rd liner who can play up the line up.

Woll has game, but for where the Leafs are at and what the need in net, Thompson is an upgrade at this time. Vegas can wait Woll out another year. Thompson loons ready to make the jump but is buried.
2.
TOR
  1. 2023 5th round pick (CHI)
CHI
  1. Mrázek, Petr
Additional Details:
If Chicago is going into a hard rebuild, they are not hitting the UFA market to fill out their goaltending.

Mrázek had a horrible season, but over his career is a decent split time goaltender. Hawks apparently had interest at the deadline.
3.
TOR
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Holl is effective, but the Leafs change the look of the blueline for 22-23, which Holl flushes out. Resigning Lybushkin for a more physical presence and the growth of Lilligren mean Holl moves.
DAL
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
If Dallas isn't/wasn't willing to commit money and term to Klingberg, they won't be doing that via the UFA market either.

Holl is a surprisingly effective top 4 D, who I think pairs nicely with Suter. Anticipate an extension here, for reasonable money and term.

Liked what you did on most of the other ones. Didn't look at your profile but guessing a TML fan...

Yes, but I think I know my puck enough not to be a Homer.

This is based on the fact the brass is sticking with the Fab 4. Frankly, I would be moving one of them if I had my way.

If Kase has priced himself out of Toronto, not sure Vegas is in any better shape to take him on.

Vegas has inherent moves to make, so I believe they would.

Kase for me is $2.5 million, give or take. Process him.out of Toronto, but should put him in the wheel house for the Knights..... cuz as I said, they aren't done.

Why exactly wouldn't the hawks sign a ufa goalie? That makes no sense. Nobody is paying for mrazek. Just buy him out if you don't want to give up assets to move him. Hawks only had interest in the prospect it would cost toronto to move mrazek. Not mrazek himself.

Vegas is in a worse cap situation than Toronto. They can't pay kase.

Can't see anyone giving up a 3rd for a 6/7 defenseman

Vegas has no interest in trading Thompson especially for that package.

"If Chicago is going into a hard rebuild, they are not hitting the UFA market to fill out their goaltending" Uhh what? Look at buffalo this year, all their goalies were UFAs, and this year there are a ton of goalies to choose from. Since we're going to be terrible we can choose any of them and sign them to league min. Mrazek is terrible, dont act like youre doing Chicago a favor by trading him to us we'd be doing YOU guys the favor since youre so cap strapped.
