Bear likely isn't qualified, Toronto can just sign him for free

Quality > Quantity on the Hawks trade

Bear's rights are going to be traded. Civian reported the Canes are 95% likely to qualify him.

As for the Cat trade, there is a lot of both in there... that's a lazy take on it.

If DeBrincat costs that much I wouldn’t bother trading for him.

Maybe he's traded but it is entirely possible that he's just not QO'd still. I would not put his value very high at all right now, definitely not returning Kerfoot.

There are pieces with value in that trade but it is at the end of the day a lot of quantity and not at all realistic.

It's a very slim possibility that he doesn't get QO'ed and there's that slim possibility with a lot of RFA's this class. Bear isn't special because of it.

We've seen traded with a lot of quantity as long as the pieces are of value. If you ignore Gardiner, who could easily be sent elsewhere, every piece there is of value. If you remove Lafontaine and Puistola, everything there is of strong value and that is an extremely reasonable package. Just because there's a lot of pieces doesn't mean they are all worthless, which is what your original point suggested.

Morrow is the Canes best prospect.
Suzuki is number 3 or 4
Necas is a 23 year old NHL player that put up 40 points in a down year and wants to play C.
2 1sts (unprotected by the way, when the Canes have goalies made of carbon fibre) are nothing to turn the nose up at.

Just proving that your original take (quantity > quality) was lazy. I'm not saying it's realistic, before you try and suggest that I said that. You have had a history of trying to spin my words.

The value is scattered amongst the vast array of players to CHI.

I agree the base would need to feature Necas, Morrow and a 1st. What is added from there becomes the art of the negotiation.

One thing is for sure. If the Hawks are moving CAT this off season they will want the high end quality and with reportedly a lot of teams at the forefront the Canes would have to put a strong package together with the others being able to send a top 10 pick.
