Devils say no and we could get more for Barzal and a 50% retained Nelly, especially to a team that is cap-strapped and lacks center depth in Minnesota

Barzal isn't worth his salary and with him only having one year on his contract and needing a sky high qulifying offer to retain his rights, this stinks for Detroit. There are better ways to find the 2C we need.

Islanders would be getting #8 pick back. That is a great return for Barzal, considering his contract.

Um... So just to be clear, you don't want a cost controlled PPG amazing skating center for two B prospects and the 8th OA pick. I'm pretty sure that Detroit and Yzerman would take that in a heartbeat.

His contract isn't bad. Also Pittsburgh and Calgary decline hard cause they have no need to do those trades at all. If you want a comparable look at the Stralman trade to Arizona where he was traded for a second and a B prospect.

He’s one of the most dynamic players in the game and he’s only 25. The odds of pick 8 being better than Barzal is extremely low. This isn’t close for Barzal

Barzal is a top 15 center in the league , he’d be detroits best forward. This offer isn’t close for Barzal.

He isn't cost controlled, that's the whole point!

The qualifying offer needed to retain his rights is way higher than what he's worth.

SO a PPG center that is in the prime of his career with one year left on a contract then is an RFA isn't worth the 10m dollar qualifying offer that would be around his next contract. Wow, if you're not willing to pay what he is worth than you won't get him simple as that.

Larkin scored 69 points in 71 games this season.
Barzal scored 59 points in 73 games this season.

Larkin's base salary is $5,250,000 next season.
Barzal's base salary is $10,000,000 next season.

Barzal is NOT a point per game player!

He scored ten points less than Larkin did while playing two games more.

If Barzal had scored double of what he does he'd be worth 10 million.

Base salary means nothing when building a team, cap hit is the only thing that matters.

He also played for Barry Trots where any player will score a lot less.
