As easy as it is to say that petry isn't worth that (because he isn't) I think it would take a miracle for him to be traded for less than that. Ben Chairot who is worse than petry mind you, went for a first round pick plus PLUS. Petry is going to command and absolutely STUPID haul from a team that will have lots of buyers remorse. I don't like the Gibson trade because the habs should not be trying to pull out of this rebuild yet, that's where we've been going wrong for the last 20 years.

There are a couple of things you have to consider when comparing this trade to the Chairot trade. It was done at the TDL and you do pay a premium to acquire players at the TDL. Florida was the best team in the league during the regular season and its teams in this position that tend to overpay. There were several teams very interested in Chairot and we don't know if teams were bidding against each other. Petry is 3.5 years older than Chairot now if they were both under 30 probably not a big deal but over 30 every year is significant. Petry's cap hit is $6.25M dollars for the next 3 seasons and Chairot's cap hit was $3.5M and in the final season. Since it was done at the TDL and Montreal retained Florida was only on the hook for a fraction of that. Now Detroit is still rebuilding and more than likely not a playoff team next season and they have no need for an RHD especially one over 30.
