Absolutely no possible rationale for this exchange. Los Angeles needs right-handed forwards, not left-handed; Los Angeles is future-looking, not win-now, and Kerfoot is a rental; Los Angeles is looking to add a top-line forward and/or a top-pairing defenseman, both of whom will have high cap hits, and Kerfoot's will be at least $2 million more than Vilardi's, thereby precluding at least one of the two big-ticket acquisitions; and Vilardi is still seen as having a higher potential than Kerfoot ever achieved.
