Petry to TOR makes sense

Created by: Super_Randy
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 19, 2022
Published: Jun. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Toronto is only a few hours from Detroit and TOR needs a top 4 RHD which Petry will be for the next couple years. Plus by MTL taking 2 cap dumps back from TOR and also retaining on Petry, it frees up quite a bit of cap for TOR.

Same gig for EDM. Clears a little cap and gains what is virtually another 1st round pick in the MTL 33OA.

Dvorak isn’t the difference between 26 and 12.

Dvorak gets you from #26 to maybe #23 (Anaheim wouldn't trade #22 down to #26 for him), not #12.

You say you’re taking two cap dumps from Toronto, but Mrazek is the only one. Kerfoot is not a cap dump. Petry is more of a cap dump than Kerfoot is. Plus, Liljegren and the 1st each have more value than Petry

Petry to Toronto actually makes very little sense.

Liljegren is a step away from being a regular top-4 D, rather just wait on that.

Are you high? Dvorak only moves up 3 apots??
He doesn’t get them to 12 like OP said but 26th + Dvorak gets somewhere around 15-20 pretty easily

Kerfoot has value, for sure, but most of the deals I've seen for him (Seattle!) are for draft picks . . . because for as much as you "value" the player, right now your team values any cap room it can find more. Label the deal however you want, but couple all that with his UFA status next summer and perhaps Leaf fans should temper their expectations on a return for him.

I don’t expect Kerfoot to get a big return, probably around a 3rd, but he is a good player and it’s not like he has a huge cap hit. Personally I’d be fine if the Canucks gave up a 3rd for him or had him as a piece coming back in a Miller trade (not the main piece obviously)

1C is the only center spot it makes sense for the Blue Jackets to trade to fill and Dvorak isn't a 1C. As with all of the other top 9C trade proposals to Columbus, it might have made sense before they signed Roslovic, but they did so now its not a type of player they need.

Could you plug in to the collective brain that is most of the TOR fans on here that have Seattle give up a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th for the guy, then!?! Seattle likely has 5 other intentions of how to utilize both their draft capital and their cap space this off-season, and because of the things I've mentioned and more, I seriously don't see acquiring Kerfoot being in those first thoughts!!!
