Hall Holtby

Created by: UpsideDownQue
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 19, 2022
Published: Jun. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Hall's speed could fit in very nicely in Colorado. It was reported/speculated that winning and not being the team's #1 guy were some of Hall's priorities which is why he signed with BOS, but with a potential rebuild on the horizon he may be willing to jump ship to COL. Sakic has reportedly been interested in Hall in the past but nothing has ever come to fruition

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I balanced the lines to spread out the talent quite a bit but Bednar could always stack the top of the lineup if he wanted. Please dont comment "Why acquire Hall just to play him on the 3rd line?"

Rantanen/Compher/Newhook/Meyers could all have a go at "2C" to see what works, but with a forward core this deep it doesnt even really matter how you number the lines

Avs are proving you dont need a hot goalie to win in the playoffs. They could let Darcy go to UFA and snag Holtby to use as a tandem with Francouz for cheaper. He has cup experience and solid career playoff numbers too and could come relatively cheap due to poor performances during the covid years even though he bounced back last season

Bruins decline. Going to cost much more for a prime asset locked into a good contract for three more seasons.

I'm curious about something: is Rantanen a centre? Has he played centre for the avs this playoffs? I haven't payed close enough attention.

dont be too sure on that, hall and lazar went for a little more than an 2nd, this deal is more than fair, especially given his age.

    Yep

As soon as I heard Washington's GM say he wanted a veteran goalie I immediately said Holtby is going back to Washington calling it now

    It makes to much sense

Unless they pull the trigger on a Gibson trade I just cant see them bringing anyone else

Seems like a hefty contract for Nichuskin.

Hall isn’t the answer Burakovsky scored the exact same amount of pts this year, and has scored more the last 3 years. Also he doesn’t cost anything to re-sign much less their only pick in the first two rounds of the next two drafts and their top prospect. Doesn’t make any sense, especially if the intention is to play him on the third line.

The Bruins wouldn't trade Hall for the package they gave up to get him. His NMC disallowed Buffalo to trade him where they wanted, limiting the return they could get. Bruins aren't going to move Hall for that abysmal return.

Two completely different situations. Hall was playing at a 40pt pace and pending UFA with a full NMC when Buffalo traded him. Hall basically called the shots and forced his way to Boston. Hall now....isn't a pending UFA, is playing at a 60pt pace and doesn't have a full NMC.

yeah hes played center when the avs are in a pinch, such as now when kadri is out.

You might not need a hot goalie or a top 5 goalie if you’re the Avs right now, but the drop off from Kuemper to Holtby is massive. You have to find a way to get an above average goalie or this tandem will lose you a series before the finals - assuming they can even get through the season healthy which would be a big question mark.

Yea but with the way hes playing Avs are either gonna have to pay up or another team will. I still think hes worth it

Avs goalies have been below average all playoffs. Kuemper at -5.92GSAx and Francouz at -1.53GSAx. All they need is average goaltending which Holtby and Francouz can both provide imo

Francouz I’m much more confident in. Holts is below average at best at this point in his career. If you can get him super cheap and maybe being around rest of a stacked team could hide that but it’s not something I’d want to bank on and have it cost me when it matters.

true, I did overlook that but I do think that he wouldnt get a king's ransom if he were delt. I could see toffoli being a comperable trade.
