Trading for Bishop was an indication that the Sabres will not make major moves

Created by: gretzkyghosts

Description
Zucker, Kase, Holl, Mrázek and Kapanen are overpaid, but Buffalo could absorb their contracts, all would fit in very nicely in the Sabres line up.
What some Penguins thought of Zucker’s trade value:

Some predictions of the Sabres’ off season.

I know this keeps Quinn or Peterka in Rochester, but is that a bad plan to give them a chance to grow in the AHL.
Right now they are both 20 years old.
Let's compare them to some other Buffalo successful draft picks:
Pominville spent over 3 years in Rochester and was 23 before he became Sabre regular.
Vanek after two years at the U of Minn spent a full season in Rochester and was 21 before he became Sabre regular.
Roy spent parts of three seasons in Rochester and was 22 before he became a Sabre regular.
Gaustad spent three seasons in Rochester and was 23 before he became a Sabre regular.
So let's develop our prospects rather than rush them as we did with Mittelstadt, Cozens, Ristolainen, Girgensons, Grigorenko etc.

Zucker takes Olofsson's LW spot. Obviously does not replace his scoring, but he has 17 goals in his last 79 games while Olofsson has 20 in his last 72 games.
Marino adds to Buffalo RHD
Kase, Hinostroza and Kapanen all work hard to be the last RW or they become depth forwards.
Kapanen could PK in Buffalo as he did in Toronto so he may have a slight edge.

While Mrázek is bad, getting a pick and players to take him when the Sabres are in a holding pattern is a step forward.

……………GAA.........W....L......OT...SV%
Anderson....3.12.......17....12....2......0.897
Mrázek.......3.34........12......6....0.....0.888
Mrázek would back up Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in goal playing about 17 games.

This would be a nice draft:
9th OA David Jiříček (RHD), or Simon Nemec (RHD) while unlikely either will be available I can dream that Buffalo gets a RHD with this pick.

16th OA (VGK) First, it is so nice to have this pick so early. Conor Geekie (C), Danila Yurov, (RW) or Brad Lambert (C/RW) some draft predictions have one or all available by 16th OA.

28th OA (FLA) Ty Nelson (RHD), Tristan Luneau (RHD), Denton Mateychuk (LHD), Owen Beck (RHC), Luca Del Bel Belluz (LHC) or Best Player Available

At the TDL Zucker, Kase and Holl are all traded for additional draft picks or prospects.
Peterka, Quinn and Laaksonen are promoted to the Sabres.

Wishful predictions but not out of this world
Skinner - Cozens - Tuch 30+21+19 = 70
Asplund - Mittelstadt - Thompson 14+18+35 = 67
Zucker - Krebs - Kase 16+15+13 = 44
Girgensons - Ruotsalainen - Okposo 10+8+16 = 34
Dahlin - Holl 15+2 = 17
Cozens - Marino 9+1 = 10
Samuelsson - Jokiharju 2+4 = 6
Hinostroza - Kapanen 5+5 = 10
Goals For 70+67+44+34+17+10+6+10 = 258 up from 232
Better defense and GK along with higher puck possession the GA is reduced to 270 from 290

Final record 35-35-12 for 82 pts

I honestly doubt they go this extreme with not adding any pieces.

I think Adams would be crucified if he went into the season with those two as his NHL goalies.

They will get a goalie, a 4th line center, and another defenseman.

Why give olofosson 7 years and put him on your 3rd line? Krebs is no defensive 4th line center, and Thompson proved his worth in the middle. Even if you don’t get splashy in net, might as well improve depth and add somebody to fight for future number 1. Is this built by a Buffalo fan?

I don't think that is the case. Bishop is just a low real money way to get them to the cap floor in case they strike out on getting any impact players via trade or FA. IIRC most contracts now have insurance to cover some/most/all of the cost if a player gets injured to the point they can't play anymore.

If Fiala, Boeser, etc are willing to sign a long term deal in BUF they should go after them and start building a positive reputation as an organization. BUF needs to be a place players want to come, not a wasteland used as a trade threat by other teams. Great place to live (minus the random weird weather), great fanbase, just awful as an organization.

Why on earth would you sign Ruotsolainen to a 7-year deal? He has 35GP to his name and you want to sign him for 14X more games than that?

I don’t we should be helping the Maple Leafs cap situation or doing anything to help them make any moves for a goalie and roster upgrade.

Subban is an ok signing but he’s not a top four D anymore. I think Jokiharju is significantly better than him at this point.

I think they will undoubtedly add a goalie and spend a little modest money there in the 3-4 million range. I agree they can’t go into the season with those two. Especially considering Buffalo could make a jump next season

I think his biggest move will be a Goalie, other than that a 3rd pair RD maybe. They really like Fitz.

I couldn't agree more. I think bishop was a safety net put into place. I think they have a few targets they will go for and if they miss they can be at the floor without paying some 4th line or scratches crazy money to hit the floor.

I think the op is correct, the owners are tired of losing money and looking like fools doing it. Kim pegula was in the icu in boca raton with an undisclosed illness last I heard too. They kinda did what you suggested 2 years ago, they drew a line in the sand at 70 million, but when they realized taylor hall would come here, suddenly the line got moved. So I will agree, if something comes up that the owners/management decides is just too good to pass up, they may take it, but if there's nothing like that on the table I expect to be close to the floor. I expect them to be especially tough on the garbage and depth players that teams would like to unload- those aren't landing here unless there's something crazy good coming with them.

Think its realistic in that its very minimal - but I really see us taking an overpriced goalie to collect some picks as well. Don't think we make a move for any wingers unless we are burying them in the minors. If anything we acquire an overpriced C for the 4th line to replace Eakin. Unfortunately I think Olo is done as a sabre

Let me begin, the Sabres are NOT trading Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen unless it is over kill as he is the only GK they have signed.
Certainly not for Anderson, and Dahlström. If they are knocking the door to the NHL let them knock on the Scotiabank Arena door not the Key Bank Center.
On that I think there is agreement.

But I sort of like that Chicago trade on which I know I will get push back.

Mrázek obviously has negative value, but when compared to Anderson:
GAA.........W....L......OT...SV%
3.12.........17....12....2......0.897
3.34........12......6....0.....0.888
He could be a back up to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

No one generated more strong discussions than Holl on Cap Friendly.
I watched him during every Sabre encounter and he has value as a solid stay at home defenseman.
Rarely caught out of position or making silly errors.

Duszak, and Der-Arguchintsev do not add much to the trade they could fill out the line up in Rochester or Duszak (RHD) may become Buffalo's 7th defenseman next year.

2022 1st round pick (TOR) 25th OA 17.83
2022 3rd round pick (WPG). 79th OA 1.69 total 19.52

2022 2nd round pick (CHI) 38th OA 9.92
2022 2nd round pick (MIN) 56th OA 4.52
2022 6th round pick (CBJ) 176rd OA 0.14 total 14.59
A difference of 4.93 or a late 2nd.

Keep everything the same and make it Buffalo's 2022 2nd giving Crowe four darts in the first round
Mrázek, Holl, Duszak, Der-Arguchintsev, 2022 1st round pick (TOR) and 2022 3rd round pick (WPG) for Buffalo's 2022 2nd.
I would do this trade.
You can laugh at or roast me now
