What are you expecting the return to be for rental JT Miller?

Should be better than what Buffalo got for Risto

I think last i heard was a 1st and "A" prospect and a roster play was the cost. I think also getting a young RHD is one of the priorities too, i can't imagine we would trade him for anything less than that

Wow, imo that is a steep asking price for possibly one year of JT Miller. I get he’s a really good player but wow.

No, I think that is a perfectly acceptable ask

We don’t need to spend 2 firsts on a rental, we’re good enough to win without that. Also, why are you signing Murray? And to 2 mil?

Miller has had 2 seasons in his career with the last one being his monster 99 point season. And I understand the Canucks want to take advantage of his value right now because it is inflated by last seasons performance. But I also think NHL teams will look back at the rest of Millers career and ask you to lower you price. Most players in their career experience regression to the mean or average. And while Miller had a great year I don’t think he replicates it and maybe other gms think that way.

But hey we’ll see it’s hard to predict what players trade values actually are so we’ll see if he gets moved.

True, but don't expect any team to be able to pry JT Miller away from the Canucks for pennies on the dollar

You basically moved Girard for a rental, that’s not happening. But @Pond_Duck is 100% right in his assessment of Miller, and if you are moving Girard either Kadri is getting re-signed or some sort of player like Trochek is getting that money.

Avs should run one of the best top 4 D cores in the league and not trade them away. Makar (23) , Toews (28), Byram (21), Girard (24). You can have the younger 3 for close to a decade still.

The Risto return was an overpayment. You could just as easily use the Reinhardt return instead, which was a 1st + good prospect, which is equivalent to two 1sts.

Considering what Avs paid for Lehkonen, how he's played in the playoffs, and the fact that he's an RFA that's a bit of an outlandish ask.

Murray was fine this year. Could be cheaper I guess. The important thing is the one year term.

Two late first aren’t the same. Jones price was similar to Risto. Sorry 99 point guys aren’t cheap

Yeah it's not ideal to trade Girard. I'm just playing around with ideas for how to fill the 2C hole. Expecting Copo or Trocheck to sign isn't super realistic.

Two-way forwards like Lehkonen aren't cheap either.

Considering that Lehkonen cost a 2nd + Barron (basically a 1st), your ask is essentially 1st + 1st + 2nd + 2nd + C prospect. Name one other rental who went for that haul...

When did he get 99 points? Take a look at the last 3 years, Miller has more points than guys like Barkov. He’s a first line center in the top 10 in scoring and you bring up Lehkonen? Lol

I really like Puljujarvi (higher 5v5 GF%, xGF%, G differential/60, and xG differential/60 than McDavid lol + more Finns is always good) and if we can get a good 3LD in UFA then im open to moving Girard. Imo hes behind both Toews and Byram on the depth chart at this point (not a knock on Girard, just that COL is absolutely stacked at LD)

Millers asking price seems to be way too high. Id look elsewhere for a forward

You’re not really trying to sell he is as good as Barkov are you? Or that he is an elite 1C? I can name like 12-15 centers better than him off the top of my head, he isn’t even the best C on VAN. And considering the Rangers wouldn’t offer more than Chytil, Lundqvist, and a 1st I think you might have an over inflated value of what Miller as a one year rental is worth.

Agree with all this. I saw a compelling FLA ACGM that had a Bennett for Girard swap, that I liked significantly more than acquiring Miller.

Bennett for Girard seems interesting. FLA could use a LHD puckmover, and have Lundell or Reinhardt who can step into the 2C spot. Their caphits are pretty close too. Bennett at $4.45m X3 would almost be identical to Kadri's contract when acquired from Toronto, and would work well capwise. I'm intrigued by that idea. Lehkonen-Bennett-Rantanen would be a handful as a second line.

The way he has played the last 3 years, Miller is the BEST C on VAN, EP will be soon. But yea if NYR offered a legit RHD prospect, a young, cost controlled roster player and a 1st and VAN said no then the offer would need to be bigger than that... I get everyone is scared that they wouldn't be able to re-sign JT but dude is cheap as hell for what he brings and if you are wanting to win a cup next year, he brings any team closer to that. VAN doesn't actually want to trade him but for where they are in their cycle, he isn't the right fit. He fits on a team that is contending for the cup NOW
