Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2022
Published: Jun. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I believe this team should be able to push for a playoffs.
We overpay for Letang but his leadership on defense should help our young players and create one of the best top in the league.
Adding Fiala would help create top line then can compete with other teams and not force our young players to play in top 6 as rookies. We would be able to protect our 3rd line.
Gibson will give sabres stability in the net. His stats should increase with a better team in front of him and better dman in front of him.

Way too much to give up for Fiala. That's almost equal to the Eichel package.

ANA declines. I break it down as Comtois for Olofsson then Gibson for the 2 prospects and pick. On the Comtois side the players are basically the same except Olofsson is 3 years older. The Ducks don't need or want to flip a 23 yr old into a 26 yr old.

Regarding the prospects in the Gibson trade ANA has the cupboards full of prospects already. Tell me why Portillo is better than Dostal at the same age. Johnson isn't better than LaCombe, Thrun, Moore, Zellweger and Helleson. ANA needs NHL players (young ones, like 23 yrs old is perfect).

Olofsson is better then Comtois. He might be older but he the best shots in NHL. He was hurt last year and if he was healthy his stats would of been alot better. Meanwhile Comtois seems to be getting worse on the ducks. Gibson was good but his stats were terrible last year and I dont believe you will get better offer then 16th overall, top goalie prospect, and 1st round LHD prospect. That is a huge haul for declining goalie signed to long term deal.

I agree but MIN fans would lose their minds with anything less. That is why I took on contracts from flames and add them. I think you could drop that and it will still work.

Only people saying that are outside of Anaheim and all of them some how are wanting to acquire said "bust". It amuses me how at the same time Comtois has zero value and *everyone* wants him.

The value for Gibson wasn't the issue. The issue is Anaheim doesn't need those pieces. If they trade Gibson they are going to fill holes on their NHL roster. They need two top 4 defensemen and a top 6 winger not prospects that are years away from the NHL. Drop Comtois from the Anaheim side and drop the two prospects from the Buffalo side and I think that's a lot closer to something the Ducks actually say yes to.

EDIT -- It's worth saying for emphasis that the Ducks are 20M below the cap floor right now. They can't trade Gibson's 6.4M without taking NHL money back. In other words prospects aren't going to be the focus of the trade.

You could easily flip those prospects for what you need. this will give you the ammo needed.

Sure. You go out and find the 3rd team to make that happen and we'll talk. Collecting Buffalo's spare parts isn't in my offseaon plan anywhere.
