Bad Contracts Chychrun Trade and more

Created by: Brandon412
Team: 2022-23 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2022
Published: Jun. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING: 1. No, I do not expect Arizona to accumulate THIS MANY bad contracts but at the same time, I do not see why not. There is a huge market for paying teams like ARI, ANA, DET, and BUF to utulize their cap space by taking on poor contracts in along with 1sts, 2nds, and 3rds for the price of nothing and tanking for Bedard or Michkov.
2. I only resigned Galchenyuck and Stralman because there have been numerous reports of both of them liking their time in ARI and wanting to resign hence why I did that.
3. I traded away Crouse and Fischer because there was just no need to keep the time players at the peak of their trade values so might as well utilize the value while you still can.
4. The Chychrun trade is a hard one to predict where he'll end up as teams like LA and STL are in need of a star offensively minded D-man. The return could be better IMO but I'd rather undervalue him than overvalue him due to his recent season.
5. Lastly, the Ghost trade makes a lot of sense for me. With Backstroke going on LTIR for most likely the whole season the Caps are in a position to where they can add by staying competitive for at least one more season with Ovi and the return isn't bad for them either.

How isn't he??? Dude is literally one of the worst defensemen in the entire league and is a major pylon at both ends of the ice. No team wants him for SIX MILLION DOLLARS for TWO MORE SEASONS. you need to watch more hockey bud if that's your honest take.

Cap isn’t a concern but sending deals with high real money is going to cost teams dearly to move to Arizona

Yeah prob could've gotten more for him in all honestly but Arizona is gonna have a boat load of picks. Maybe could've included Ryan Suzuki as well.

He’s overpriced but not a bad D man. Market price is probably around 4 mm

I mean, he was actually not bad this past year. Is he worth $6 x 2? Not really, but if the Canucks think they're going to be back in the race next year, they're better off with him than without him.

If you’re including Suzuki you have to take gardiners contract too

Yeah prob could've gotten more for him in all honestly but Arizona is gonna have a boat load of picks. Maybe could've included Ryan Suzuki as well.

How isn't he??? Dude is literally one of the worst defensemen in the entire league and is a major pylon at both ends of the ice. No team wants him for SIX MILLION DOLLARS for TWO MORE SEASONS. you need to watch more hockey bud if that's your honest take.

Tell me you haven't watched Tyler Myers play in the last 3 years without telling me you haven't watched Tyler Myers play in the last 3 years. Dude is a legit Number 4 Dman. Not worth 6m, agreed, but certainly not a cap dump haha Holy crap, Brandon412, thats awful take. Maybe when the IOS gets upgraded to Brandon413, itll come with the ability to value Defencemen.

just to push back a little. He was borderline useless until last season where he played much better under Boudreau. If we want out from his contract it could cost us a later pick maybe. He might even have some value but lets not pretend he's been good for 3 yrs.

He has been a capable 2nd pairing Dman during his entire tenure with VAN. And was "Good" last year. I'd rather keep Myers at 6m than pay to get rid of him and his money

Maybe because you’re a delusional fan who believes all of the memes that he is bad. Maybe try actually watching him and then start going off on how bad he is. You’re clearly not a Canucks fan because your knowledge on him is very short sighted. One of the worst defenceman in the league? He and OEL was one of the best defensive pairings in the league. Try again. Myers may be overpayed but only by 1-1.5 mil. If you put Myers in UFA right now, I can almost guarantee he would still get 5 million dollars from a team. Maybe YOU should watch more hockey if that’s your honest opinion. Ignorance is bliss

I mean, he was actually not bad this past year. Is he worth $6 x 2? Not really, but if the Canucks think they're going to be back in the race next year, they're better off with him than without him.

The goal is not to be contending next year. Myers has value despite what you might think. If Ristolainen and his terrible metrics fetches a 14OA pick, I’m sure we could lose Myers without giving anything up

He had a huge bounce back in the last 2 seasons, this past season under Bruce, Bruce said he was the most improved player on the team over Pettersson and Horvat

I agree with the last sentence but up until this last yr I would have paid to get rid of him. He was utterly terrible as a top 4 dman.

It's funny to me because when Canucks fans start talking like OEL and Myers are good top 4 dmen it does beg the question, then what do you think is wrong with this team?

What was wrong with the team overall is they dug themselves a hole in the first 25 games of last season because the previous regime had a coach whose expiry date had already passed. Not only that, but there were some bad habits left behind on the players, now the new regime is preaching developing better practice habits. The talent on the roster has always been there, the question is how will the younger guys mature going forward

Myers and OEL are NOT the reason the team missed the playoffs, and that shouldn't be hard to see

They missed badly the season before too. 13.25 million tied up in OEL and Myers certainly are two of the biggest reasons the team is not in a good spot. Green was awful I'd agree but those are just simply bad contracts by any metric.

Inefficient contracts yes, but they aren't holding the team back from making the playoffs by any means. Myers isn't even a negative asset anymore

Stars decline, at most a 3rd for dumping Dobby. A 2nd is way too much.

Inefficient is correct. That is exactly what is the problem with any team, inefficiency. If you look at Dom's model, which gives a cap value based on performance, here are the three glaring inefficiencies on the team 1. Myers (represents -3.9 mil) 2. OEL (-2.9) 3. Dickinson (-2.6) next is 4. Poolman (-1.0). Almost everyone else on the team is contributing equal to or positive value against what they are paid. So while OEL and to lesser extent Myers are ok players, they are paid as if they are star players. Those three contracts are the main thing holding this team back.

You saying Myers isn't a negative asset doesn't make it true. I agree he had a bounce back after Boudreau was hired but he still isn't worth his contract so I think trading him will like cost us something, rather than receiving anything. Or perhaps most likely a trade for a different struggling contract.

No, Myers won't cost anything to dump. Again, Myers and OEL may not be elite level contributors, but they're both still better than okay. Even cup contending teams typically have one or two onerous contracts on the books. I already told you that those contracts aren't holding the team back from making the playoffs, they might hold the team back from contending in the future, but they aren't preventing them from making the playoffs

I just gave you a response to you "telling" me that it wasn't OEL and Myers that held this team back by giving you actual data that shows it is precisely them. Those contracts most definitely are holding the team back. I think a lot of Canucks fans just haven't seen a good defenseman in a long time and assume OEL and Myers are ok. You pivoted there to making the playoffs. The team has an elite offensive defenseman, great goaltending, and good top 6 of course it's possible that they can make the playoffs. The two players that hold this team back more than anyone are Myers and OEL though. We'll see if Myers is tradeable this offseason I suppose. Mostly teams don't trade for underperforming expensive players.
