Troubas Value

Created by: Vermathex
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2022
Published: Jun. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Next Season with the development of our young D on the right side (schneider and nils) and his massive cap hit trouba will have to be moved. Trying to gage some of his value in these trades. Im also trying to take into account his NMC/NTC with no canadian trades.
Trades
1.
NYR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (STL)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (DET)
DET
  1. Trouba, Jacob ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
My thinking is detroit gets a serviceable, physical defensemen at a decent cap hit for 3 more years. at the time of this trade hronek will have one more year left and can play behind trouba and sieder.
2.
NYR
  1. 2023 4th round pick (BUF)
BUF
    Trouba
    No Retention

correct me if i'm wrong but theres dahlin on the right side paired with power for the next 10 years then not much more help coming on the Right side. I would imagine they will address it this draft, but depending on the prospect it could take time for them to be an NHL reg. trouba provides a good stop gap between that time.

logic on the trouba deal is fine but he's got no reason to waive.

Detroit really doesn't need retention on Trouba, But as is we accept.

Trouba would be nice if that was his cost, and he would come here

if he doesn't waive then the next year after (2 from now) he has a 15 team no trade. i guess we could wait until then. with only 2 years left on his deal it may be more attractive to other teams.

Rangers are going to have to wait awhile. He isn’t waiving his NMC.

He has a NMC for 2 more seasons for a reason. He laughs at posts like this. It's like beating a dead horse. But in a dreamland scenario like this, retained, there would be a bidding war

what is the obsession for Ranger fans trading Trouba?
sure, he is slightly overpaid but he is a valuable part of the Ranger blueline.
trading Trouba puts too much pressure on Lindgren to become the only stand up dman.

Trouba has way more value than Copp or Strome.
he doesn't need to be traded, at least in the near future.

This is also putting a lot of faith in Schenider being able to move up to the 2nd pairing full time and Nils becoming a full time NHLer.
in my opinion, Trouba will be on this roster for at least the next 3 years, if not playing out the full contract.

I'm not saying he will waive for Detroit but once Kelly is done with her residency Trouba waiving could happen. I think she finishes just before the next offseason and that's why this team is for the 2023-24 season.

Ok and I respect that but I really don't think it is. For the 1st time since Zetterberg was still a Wing Larkin was able to stay on the 1st line and build chemistry with a winer (Raymond). That's because Suter, Bertuzzi and Fabbri were able to score on a regular basis. Ideally Detroit and Larkin would've loved it if Bertuzzi could have spent all season on that line as well. Larkin finished 22nd in points among centers this season and took a big step towards being a #1C and as he gets more help he will continue to get better.

yea he had a good redemption season but he's a rental now. trouba also had a good season. put up 40 points and what lighting up everyone this season. he and seider would make a very formidable back end. trouba comes with 4 years of control and with $2m retention. frankly i think the wings might have to add.

Apparently a 1C is less valuable than an overpaid 3-4 D.

Trouba, Varlamov, improvement among all players under 24 and another RHD would make the Sabres in the playoff hunt.

nyr is pretty unlikely to retain 4x$2m. detroit probably wont move larkin either but we know now hes not untouchable

Using that logic no one is untouchable but like Fox Larkin won't make it to free agency.
