Totally not biased off-season

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Depending on what happens this offseason, the Sabres could make a potential playoff push due to PIT/WSH/BOS falling out of the playoffs (I think PIT makes it again). A lot of new teams in the east have a chance to make the playoffs this year (BUF, DET, CBJ. Potentially even OTT, NJD, or MTL) depending what happens with the other 3 teams.

You’re giving Minny too much salary back

I’d say take out Dumba & add Talbot,
then take out Olofsson & add a different prospect maybe?

Might as well just start over from scratch. Florida's pick isn't high enough and Johnson isn't going to be the primary piece in a deal where Minnesota trades Fiala. Maybe if it was Dumba I'd consider Johnson an interesting piece just because the value would be there and it would open cap space to re-sign Fiala.

Trades I'd look hard at:
Fiala+Talbot for #9+Mittelstadt+3rd

Dumba+Talbot for #28+Mittelstadt+Johnson

Looking back at it, that Dumba trade is a little rich. The Fiala trade is spot on though.

I don’t think the Sabres will trade pick9
Pick 16 is even doubtful to be moved imo

Fiala could just sign his QO & go to free agency
Sabres won’t risk that imo

Unless Fiala negotiates an extension with his new team,
I don’t think u guys get a top10 pick for him

This goes without saying. The other teams will talk to Fiala before the draft and have all/most of that worked out before any trade is made.

Teams might be given permission to talk to him,
but in no way whatsoever does that mean Fiala will agree to a long term deal with someone
He might want to go to free agency & talk to as many teams as possible

Then that's what he'll tell teams he doesn't want to sign long term with. There is no reason for him to lie to a team by saying he'll sign a 7 x $7.5m and then say haha, just kidding after the trade is made.

His agent will be vague as to not pigeonhole his client into saying he’d definitely extend IF his intentions are to go to UFA

And if he does wanna go to UFA & does tell that to teams,
you’re getting nowhere close to the ridiculous value u think you’re gonna get

There is no reason to be vague with teams about anything. He'll be talking to these same GMs in a year, so he won't burn any bridges. The NHL is a very small world and all the GM's talk to each other.

Teams will have a handshake deal in place with Fiala before they give up anything more than what a full season rental is worth.

There’s zero evidence to show that Fiala will sign an extension with whatever team he gets traded to
He might, he might not

That's why teams will talk to him. The teams will know, but the only ones that will say anything are the team that gets him and the Wild.

If he wants to be a UFA in a season then teams like OTT and NDJ pack their bags and look elsewhere. It's pretty much a given from Wild fans on here that Fiala isn't getting 7oa (for instance) if he won;t sing long term this off season. It'll move his trade return into the Playoff 1st + prospect.

Even if teams are allowed to talk to Fiala,
that doesn’t mean he’ll have his mind made up as to whether he’d wanna be there long term or not

Making ANY assumptions right now is just pointless
