Bobrovsky doesn't waive for Toronto, He's not leaving South Florida for the likes of Toronto.

Vegas passes, Muzzin and Kase make more than Karlsson. So why would they make that trade?

No team in the right mind should give up 2 firsts plus for Bob, 50% retention or not. He's not worth that much even at 5 mil.

The rumour is that Florida is making Bob available with retention. It looks like they're pushing him out. And there are very few contenders in the league without a goalie who are willing to risk such a big move. Toronto is one of them.

And Muzzin only has a few years left on his deal, maybe even one, while Karlsson still has 5 years left. Vegas also gets younger by adding Robertson. They've traded a lot of prospects and picks, they might want to add younger and cheaper talent.

He has the pedigree. It will take 2 1sts because Florida would be eating half of his salary for four more years. I think it's worth a gamble if other options don't pan out, like resigning Campbell or getting Husso.

You Toronto guys have got to stop waving the $20-million-retention magic wand as if you're talking about Monopoly money.

Aside from the obvious defect pointed out by @TampaBayLightning22 about the difference between no-state-income-tax Florida and high-tax Ontario, at the beginning of the 2023 off-season, this trade would result in Florida having prospects Hirvonen and Woll, whoever they picked with the 25th overall selection in this year's draft, a first-round selection in the 2023 draft, and a $11.25 million bill coming due; meanwhile, the Panthers would have paid $8.7 million for the privilege of having enjoyed Alex Kerfoot's services for one season. Does that sound at all like a reasonable business plan?

Does that sound at all like a reasonable business plan?

About the tax situation, most players on the Leafs get paid on July 1st, with contracts filled with bonus money, and have clever financial accountants to pay as little taxes as possible. So it's not a disadvantage as some assume.

And, the reports are that Florida wants to do this. They've made the calculation that they would be better off without Bob making 10 million on their team.

CHI accepts this move IMO. The 2nd is the key part for us.

He hasn't been worth even 5 mil over the past couple years. I'd rather have someone like Holtby or Fluery personally.

IF Campbell does not sign, then I believe this may be the best avenue Toronto can take (also if Bob's NTC does not have TOR on it as a place he doesn't want to go). The only issue with all of these trades is the VGK trade to get Karlsson. Although Vegas is looking to move Karlsson, Vegas is looking to dump cap, thus, acquiring Muzzin and the RFA rights to Kase would put them over the cap (If Kase were to sign in Vegas). Karlsson will likely be moved to a team coming out of a rebuild that got money to toy with, like LA, New Jersey, Detroit,
