Definitely not Columbus on that one. Dunno if his is a contract that they could possibly move. Even at 50% retained that's a hefty contract for a 40-50 point player or less. His contract is pretty much buyout proof too so that isn't even an option.

Otter hasn't played nearly enough to earn that. 3x3.5M bridge deal max

I tried it with a buyout and they were over cap limit. I just do not know where his contract would be moved so i just said columbus

Columbus passes, Jamie Benn isn't happening.

Jeff Petry isn't a Pete DeBoer guy but Brent Burns is.

- Either give Oettinger & Robertson 3-year bridge contracts or max 8-year deals (Oettinger hasn't earned his yet, IMO)
- Dallas isn't retaining $4.5M for 3 more years of Benn's contract
- Colton Point isn't ready to be an NHL backup. Likely won't ever be
- Taking all of Petry's contract is gross for Dallas

ik about columbus, but petry has been heavily linked to the stars in the past weeks. I'm not sure if that is over because of the new coach but thats what i was going off of.

He's ready to prove he's a starter. But he hasn't even played 100 games and is still under 25. Trading Benn at 50% is a mistake and not overpaying Otter when ypu don't need to can prevent that

He's only been heavily linked to Dallas because his wife is from Texas, All indications are that he wants to be closer to home near Detroit.

We shall see, Pierre Lebrun said that both Dallas and Detroit are the prohibited front runners for Jeff Petry. And Dallas is a playoff team and we're not quite there yet.

Dallas won't retain, no team is taking his full $9.5M, and I'm betting the only team he'd accept a trade to would be Vancouver.

People have to stop trading Petry for 2022 picks.

I get you have the right be wrong but at least do some research.
Montreal has 14 picks this draft, they aren’t trading for a 2022 pick. It would be 2023 or 2024

Don't like the price either. It depends entirely on Hughes view of Petry. If he sits on him this year til at the TDL, guaranteed he will get more when salary retention is a bit easier option, and teams are more willing to go ALL IN as they have a better feel for their team. But maybe Hughes wants to send a message to other players that if you don't want to be in Montreal then you can leave even at a loss in value.

This should be an easy 1st run return at the minimum but there's also the draft in Mtl where I think Hughes wants to make an impression and they are in cap trouble so moving Petry will allow more flexibility in deals if they want to go after an RFA like Kakko or Puljujarvi when Rangers/Oilers are up against the cap and both teams are willing to move them. Something will surprising happen at the draft and i dont think it will be just Petry leaving.

Deboer isn't a great coach but he's decent, and a major upgrade over Bowness. They should be able to improve a little with him but losing Klingberg would hurt! They need Gurianov to take a big step, Bowness simply buried the poor kid.
