Next Season v6 Tons of Trades

Description
Likelihood of this all happening = pretty low

Hellebuyck isnt exactly the happiest of campers in WPG, so perhaps JP + picks would be enough to snag him. Connor Brown is a trade target in OTT that would cost us Kassian (for the money to work + he can protect their younger players) and a higher end prospect in Lavoie. The Foegele trade for Hakanpaa could also be a trade any where else for a pick and we sign a defenseman; im just particularly high on Hakanpaa for some reason. Barrie to PIT makes sense if they cant resign Letang.

Also both Smith and Keith retire. I don't think both retiring is likely, but it more fun to dream with the extra cap them retiring provides.

WPG would want multiple players in addition to the picks, one of them being the best goalie prospect (probably Skinner), one of the best prospects as the center piece of the trade (I'm thinking Holloway), a coveted young dman (maybe Bouchard or Broberg, or someone else that can better fits their needs in the future), JP and some pick(s).

Holland will say it's too much and throw money at some goalie in Free Agency or try trading for someone who would cost what you offered for Helly.

Sens can get better value than just Lavoie straight up for Brown, let alone needing to take on Kassian too? brutal.

Lavoie has not much value (at least to me, I'd hope that Dorion and co see the same thing), he's a likely bust in the making

This just an awful proposal

Brown is worth closer to Edm's 1st + Bourgault

Suggesting Brown is worth a 1st and a top tier prospect is utterly laughable. He's worth a low 3rd rounder MAX. And in this deal you are getting a former 2nd rounder that is still young and a player with grit that can protect the teenagers in your lineup. Seems completely fair to me, and its not like Kassian's cap hit would hinder OTT in any possible way.

I'll remind you that the Jack Eichel trade was Tuch, Krebs, 1st, and then trading up a 3rd to a 2nd rounder. So the trade I proposed isn't necessarily that far off; I probably just add on either Petrov/Tullio/Savoie and its equal to the Eichel trade.

I like the thought process, Helly would be way to much for the Oilers to trade for, doesn’t matter the picks and prospects or players, WPG would want the moon and rightfully so, he’s that good. I actually believe it’s Vasilevski then Helly. WPG just had a off year.
Pains me to say that being an Oilers fan.

Also, the only thing stopping Lavoie from being a top flight prospect is his willingness to engage, his shot is NHL calibre as is his skating. He needs to get dirtier and that’s straight from Woodcroft.
So for this that are ragging on Lavoie he’s closer than people are giving him credit for.

Also Xavier Bourgault is a total non-starter for those that mentioned him. He’s the Oilers best prospect and that includes Carter Savoie and Dylan Holloway.

I think we’re you might have lost people is Kassian, he’s just not a player teams will give a lot for certainly not Brown.

I do like your Barrie to Pitt if Letang walks, I think Pitt would get very interested in Barrie then.

Lastly, I’d like to see something similar in the Foegele deal, something the Oilers need like a Soucy or Sissons and even Labanc but that’s were a pick or prospect might need to be added.

Cheers, good job.

Don't forget the severity of Eichel's injury and the fact that him wanting out was so public, impacted the return Buf got for him.

Hellebuyck is probably considered a top 3 goalie by WPG and there are going to have teams lining up, so while typically goalie's have less trade value than elite centers, I wouldn't be surprised if Helly returns more than Eichel did.

That's fair, perhaps the Erik Karlsson trade may be a better indicator. The Sens got Chris Tierney (Jesse Puljujarvi has more value i would say), Dylan Demelo (Ott later traded for a 3rd rounder), 1st round pick (Oilers pick would be a lot lower, but we can make it next year's first to make the trade even), Rudolf Balcers (Minor leaguer that got waived, but since the Sharks also received a similar player in the deal we can just scratch this part of the trade for simplicity sake) and Josh Norris (which i think you can argue that a Petrov/Savoie/Tullio has around the same value as Norris did back then). Still pretty even value and Defensemen 100% have more value than goalies.

I think that people rag a lot on Kassian, but he does give teams grit. To a team like Ottawa with plenty of young players in the lineup, I think it's fair to say they could use a player like him in the lineup. Plus, I think Lavoie is more than enough value to warrant OTT taking on the Kassian contract, especially when they aren't strapped to the cap. That's just me though. I appreciate the kind words though!

Look I'm not going to waste much time with this

Note that I said "Brown is worth CLOSER to Edm's 1st + Bourgault" with emphasis on closer for those who can't read

The fact that you say "He's worth a low 3rd rounder MAX" shows that you're way out of your element here so maybe you should try to educate yourself on the NHL market before trying to discuss this. I have been following this closely for decades, particularly since the salary cap inception. Here's an easy tool to start :

https://www.capfriendly.com/trades

Heck the guy he played the most with in Ottawa, Nick Paul, got Mathieu Joseph and a 4th and Brown has been twice as productive as Paul while being the most important/impactful player
