it is not worth it for OTT to trade for 5-6 years of Cat, when he hits his late 20s early 30s his career will be over while 7th OA, and Thompson will be top players for Hawks for decade+, IF OTT was currently a playoff team then it be worth it but they may not even be close to a wild card spot again next season

What makes you think his career will be over?

his size, players his size don't last, hell Gallagher is 2 inches taller and hes done, too much of a gamble to hope his career path follows St-Louis

I mean this is crazy speculative. 7OA dont always pan out, and Lassi is far from being a lock as a top player for a decade. Cat is a 40 goal scorer and has the potential to allow Stu to be a top player. At some poitn the cupboards are too full of prospects and you need top end players which Cat is.

Plus his size doesnt mean anything with the type of player he is . He isnt a grinder like Gallagher and smaller guys have a lot longer careeers now in the NHL.

In all honesty, as a Sens fan I think the Sens could pay more than this especially with the dump of Z and bringing in Murphy

This is doable for Ottawa

- Upgrading Zaitsev to Murphy is a must, there's value in that

- DeBrincat is a high end top-6 winger, have to know what his contract demands will be though

Ottawa doesn't really need Brannstrom that much because Chabot/Sanderson and eventually Kleven

They can live without Thomson with Zub, JBD and Murphy

They can afford to move those 3 picks for immediate help too.

That 3rd should be improved to 2nd round pick

And I would add Filip Gustavsson to the package, a young goalie who could become their starter for a long time.

7OA dont always pan out,

Specifically on this, making the pick is in YOUR control. If the pick didn't "pan out" it's probably because you didn't make the right choice.

You could mess up a 1st OA pick too, but the value is still the value of a 1st OA pick

I agree that choosing a player at 7 OA is within control but to say that no matter what that this player will be a major player on a team for the next decade as a fact is just not true. I am saying it holds a lot of value but saying that you dont want DeBrincat because 7OA and Lassi is guaranteed to better is a wild take (that was my point).

Of course, It's not a fact as it didn't even happen yet. It's an opportunity. There will be FUTURE great players available at 7th OA, it's up to the team choosing to make the best choice possible

Like when the Sens drafted Karlsson 15th OA in 2008, he was the best possible choice at that spot, but the value of the pick was a 15th OA pick in that draft (it varies from draft to draft depending on how the market perceives draft classes)

I agreed with your post in general, just wanted to remind that fact about the pick's value. It's the same value regardless of what the team choosing is going to do. Could hit a homerun or strike out, it's in their hands.
