Still basically just playing with this idea, however unlikely it may seem. I just wanted to see how the roster would turn out if something like this trade occured

Still can't see Devils having any interest in pending UFAs

Can’t see why Devils would entertain trading Holtz for a winger.
They might have some interest in Talbot however.

Lets say Fiala has an extension in place before the trade, does that change anything?

I'm talking about Dumba and Talbot. I doubt the Devils have any interest in them at all.

Devils will not trade for Fiala without an extension in place.

Wow, that's really bad value for Minnesota.

It’s one of the better offers from Minnesota on value, but I don’t think NJD would be spending a whole lot on Dumba or Talbot.

Zacha + #37 + prospect* for Fiala

* Boqvist, Zetterlund, Thompson, Foote, Walsh level of prospect.

Zacha, Thompson, 2023 top 5 protected first for Fiala and Talbot, how’s that? MN would need to flip Jost and Kulikov as cap dumps I think to keep Zacha, but it could be done. I’m very much intrigued by Zacha, just worry about the cap space.

Not sure why Klingberg would sign a 2 year deal, that is cheap as well. If a team wanted him to just sign 2 years, promising more in the future, they would have to pay more than that still. If he gets injured or plays terrible, there goes his chance to make a lot of money.

Fiala in reality should return Holtz and probably something else or 7th overall from Ottawa or 13th overall+ from NYI or 11th overall+ from Anaheim or 19th overall+good prospect from LA. So that makes the rest of your trade Dumba+Talbot+5th for Zacha+2nd. Dumba by himself should return at least a late 1st+prospect. Talbot probably a late 2nd in this draft or a 3rd in 2023.

So in reality, you're skipping out on something like 7th overall + late 1st + prospect + 2nd/3rd for Holtz + unnecessary player in Zacha + 2nd.

Give me the option where Brackett has more picks to work with while still having this roster:

Kap-Hartman-Zucc
Boldy-Rossi-Gaudreau
Greenway-Eriksson Ek-Foligno

Brodin-Kulikov
Middleton-Spurgeon
Merrill-Addison

(UFA)

I don’t think we move a 1st, but it would a protected 2023 or 2024 if we did. And we could use a year of Kulikov.

Words cannot begin to describe the disdain I have for these types of proposals. You might as well not even post it because it will never happen.
