While I think Kane would be great for what Canes are missing I don’t want to give up all that for one year.

If you think that, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Well, I am pretty sure that in any situation involving Kane waiving his NMC, he would only do it for somewhere that he WANTs to go and play long term and not as a rental. But that would be up to Carolina's front office to negotiate an extension.

Blackhawks fans will hate it, Hurricanes fans will hate it…which means it’s probably not terrible. Too bad Kane doesn’t have 2 years.

The hammer is the NMC, and guessing Kane doesn’t want to go to Carolina.

Kane could fetch double that in reality. Martin Necas and a late first isnt going to cut it

Could he? Hawks don’t have a ton of leverage with Kane’s NMC and teams will know that. If he only wants to go to a specific team or small set of teams that limits what they’ll get back. Look at Giroux.

Also, for one year of Kane a young NHL player, high end prospect and a first is probably right in the ballpark - which this is. Maybe you could get more in a bidding war but with the NMC in place it probably limits what they can get.

If it’s with an extension than that would be great. But I don’t think he wants to come here long term and I doubt canes want to give a 6-8 year deal to him based on how they operate.

Without an extension already in place, I highly doubt he could fetch much more than this. Especially at his age and an expiring contract at the end of the 22-23 season. You are also glossing over the fact that Morrow is one of the best RHD prospects in the league and SEVERELY undervaluing Necas, who is only 23, hasn't hit his ceiling, and will be fairly cheap to lock up with decent term. Also, even if Carolina's 2023 1st is late, next years draft is deep enough to make up for that. Also, I doubt Carolina finishes as high in 22-23 as they did this past season. They still make the post season, for sure, but I think that pick being late teens early 20's is not at all out of the question.

Unfortunately you’re wrong about the pick - it’ll be #32 😉

If he were interested in playing for Carolina, he would probably sign a 3-5 year contract. I think anything beyond 3-5 years might be pushing it for someone his age, anyway. I could absolute see him continuing to be an impact player into his 40's. But it's smarter to do shorter term and re-evaluate after. In all honesty, I would prefer he just stay in CHI. But if he doesn't want to stick around for a rebuild, I would like to know before his contract is up and we can still recoup something for him.

What do you think he gets on a 3 year deal? 10m? Hard to get a comp bc of his age

Yeah. I really don't know. I'd like to think at his age and with all the money he has already made, he might be willing to take a more cap friendly AAV, especially for a team that has a chance to win cups through the next few years and could use the space to help keep the team competitive. But, who knows what he is thinking. Things have been pretty quiet here in CHI as far as hearing from the players since the regular season ended.

DeBrincat would be one thing, but I can’t imagine the Canes shelling all that for 1 year of Kane.

Value is pretty good for both sides, but I don't think CAR should do all that for a rental that they cannot extend.

while Scott Morrow is a great prospect I'd think Chicago would want an even higher tier guy than him

I think Kane is going to be around $8.5M to $9.5M AAV on a 3 to 5 year deal.

Would love to add him to canes on that kind of deal personally assuming he’d waive and extend there. Doubtful tho

Yeah, I don't see him moving to Carolina. New York, maybe Vegas, but beyond that doubtful he waives.

I don't really see him waiving for a team that would actually pay a fair price. I just saw some interest from Carolina fans and I'm sick of the back and forth with NYR and BUF fans about Kane, so I thought i'd give a Carolina trade a whirl.
