They'll wait a year, keep the silky skilled elite franchise winger Johnson, run the Star-studded Werenski-Jiricek offensive dynamo pairing and sign Miller to 9.5 million

if you want 6oa, its the chicago pick not cbj and the jackets decline this no matter which pick you put in

I would absolutely hate this trade as a CBJ follower. You're also trading for the wrong 1st rounder from them if you want 6th OA.

You want the recent 5th overall who has shown no sign of being picked in the wrong spot, the 6th overall, and the 25th overall from last year...

Can't wait to see Columbus fans react to this... I'm not even a fan and I'm almost offended.

This minus signing Miller to a contract that cripples their cap situation in 2 years.

The biggest question after Columbus immediately declines this is: Will Jiricek even be there at 6OA? Could easily see the duo of Nemec/Jiricek being gone to any combination of NJ, Seattle, or Philly. Zona would be a weird one since they have a lot more holes than just RD, but they could also be a wildcard on Nemec if they think they can get value with their other picks.

i could see Ceulemans and 12 OA. Maybe 6OA straight up , I mean theres precedent for that with Stepan for 7OA in 2017 and MIller is much more productive than he was.

Like, maybe I'd offer that package for a Rantanen or the Carolina Aho, but certainly not for Miller. I'm not going to say anything else because this is already a pile-on.

Doubt Miller makes it to free agency without getting an extension but that scenario is much more realistic than whatever this trade is lol

I was going to come in here with a response to the AGM title of "Columbus wants Miller" with "no, we don't want him, please stop". But then I saw the actual proposal terms and thought, "no, no, that's letting them off far, far too easily."

This is past shameful and into self-parody.

Columbus might want Miller, but does Miller want to be in Columbus? He has no ties to Columbus whatsoever, so I’m guessing the answer is no he doesn’t want to be in Columbus long term.

Ouf. Good thing NYR bogey'd hard on 7OA (Lias Andersson), because that trade looked BAD at the time. Even with his on ice issues, it's kind of funny that ADA, who was essentially a throw-in, was easily the most valuable piece in that trade.

Lots of issues with this trade beyond just Columbus giving up way too much. First of all why would Columbus need Van to retain on Miller? They won't need the cap relief, but theyre also not so poor that they couldnt afford his 4.5M salary. Theres no reason for them to pay more for Van to retain salary. Even your own logic within the trade is inconsistent since you have Columbus re-signing Miller. If they can afford to resign him at 8-9M per AAV, why would then need Van to retain salary on his current 4.5M when they're 20M below the cap? Also I'd be surprised if Miller was willing to extend in Columbus. He is increadibly competitive, why would he want to be on a perrenial fringe playoff team? Lastly coming back to my 1st point, this is giving up way too much on Columbus' part. Even with the salary retention its too much, so when you remove the salary retention youre on the wrong planet.
