That Karlsson trade looks like the OEL trade all over again. If the Canucks could just be patient they'll finally get out of their cap problems.

If Detroit is going to trade a top 10 pick it would be for a good young center.

Outside Raymond and Bertuzzi'a big year, I'd say there isn't much else.

Is this post a joke? A month ago there were legit conversations that Boeser might not even be qualifed and you're not only asking for a 1st, but a top 10 first?! On what planet is he worth that return?!

There were never any local or legit conversations he wouldn't be qualified. I've never heard that and if you have someone was spewing nonsense.

They literally talked about it on Hockey Night in Canada.

I'm not saying it was going to happen, but the fact that it was even talked about, leaked, says a lot about his perceived value.

He is a very good complimentary piece, NOT a star or superstar.

Must have been a slow news day. Fyi Rutherford has pulled back the rumor mill entirely. That's nonsense no matter who said it. It definitely wasn't Friedman either or it would be cemented in a tweet somewhere. Say what you want about him, but you're off base. He's right there with Detroit's best wingers. Raymond is the exception.

Then why would we do it? Karlsson is very overpaid but he still plays well, this would be making our team far worse and saving no money so whats the upside?

That's fine, but let's not pretend as though they're stacked on the wings (no pun intended)

Karlsson is still less efficient cap allocation than any of what Vancouver is sending the Sharks way, EVEN with the salary retention

Absolutely

But we should all at least acknowledge Detroit is both rebuilding and has even less young organizational center depth then it does wingers

In 4 years yeah it will be, but currently Karlsson is still a top pair defenseman who can help a team. Myers, Poolman and Dickenson are all anchors who make your team worse by having them

LMFAO, you think Myers, Dickinson, and Poolman are all anchors? You clearly haven't watched any of them lately, they don't make any team worse, they just don't bring bargain value, that's all

EK65 is barely a top pair defender anymore, I'd say he's ideally more of a 2nd pair defender

The only one of them that provides any wins above replacement is Poolman at 0.15. Myers provides -1.13 War and Dickinson provides -0.69.

The athletics model says Dickinsons play is worth 0.1 million, Myers 2.1 million, and Poolman 1.5 together that’s worth 3.7 million. Karlssons play is worth 7.6 million.

So basically the value is -3.9 million from the sharks but -7.45 million from the Canucks. Basically this offer provides half the value we currently get out of Karlsson, adds three contracts to deal with, but would be over much sooner.

I will pass still

Meh, that doesn't account for long-term outlook. Karlsson's contract still expires later than all the other ones

That’s a fair point, still think the sharks say no as they have expressed a want to be competitive now (wether it is possible or not), so they won’t be trading Karlsson for anything that doesn’t help the team in the next few years.

That's fine. I personally don't see the Sharks being more than a fringe playoff team in the near future considering their cap situation. Think it would be better to just embrace being bad
