Necas Girard

Created by: vikhodush
Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2022
Published: Jun. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure how I feel about this and probably not realistic but wanted to try something new with assumption that Lebrun isn’t blowing smoke (which I think he is).

Necas rumor makes sense if it’s a true top 4 young D with team control coming back - Girard and Chych fit the bill for me. Not sure how close this deal is so feel free to add what’s needed to balance it. My thought is Avs are making run without Girard and have a lot of decisions to make this summer. Necas bridge would be great for them and he’d likely thrive and bounce back with the skill he’d get to play with. Also saves them some money so can maybe keep a guy they would’ve otherwise lost?

If this were to happen it likely also means tda negotiations aren’t where they want to be so they’d move on from him. Not sure if that value is great but was trying to find potential fits more than get value perfect. Dallas makes sense and pens might too if letang doesn’t come back (I saw they’re in ballpark with him but who knows).

If Canes trade Necas for a D they’d need to address top 6 scoring in UFA. Guys like Forsberg would be fun but doubt Canes want to go 7x9 for him. Thought Burra provides that natural elite goal scoring talent they’re looking for so went with him over a guy like Nuke.

Really not sure on value for tda. Just thought team fit was there if Letang were to leave. What’re your thoughts

Value way off? Or did I misread potential fit?

Yeah I agree. In description I put this assumed Letang left. I read they’re closer with him than Malkin but still not a done deal. Assuming he left is there a fit?

Wow really? Curious why you think that.

After seeing both tda is a much better version of Bear imo. Both have defensive deficiencies but TDA can mask his better and while bear has a nice offensive toolkit, tda is another level on that side of ice. Off ice issues are a concern but if you’ve got a veteran leadership and coaching staff I think that can be handled easily.

For sure! I am not sure how Pens feel about his attitude and acquiring him would cost much more... and his AAV will be higher!

Yeah definitely. Bear probably costs a third, maybe something else small. He’ll also make half of what tda will if I had to guess.

A lot would depend on what a Necas bridge deal was at. But definitely worth considering. One thing is certain though if Girard is moved it would almost be a lock that Manson would be re-signed in COL.

Yeah there’s some similarities there. Tda younger and hopefully learned his lesson. I’d like to keep him but if Lebrun rumor is true and were to happen I feel like they’d move on from him.

He can play right side with slavin and would be fine. Can also take over for skjei if they wanted to go that route. Trade skjei instead of tda.

Idk I don’t think that’s out of the question. Sure there are off ice issues but last year he proved his worth on the ice and stayed clean off of it. Nhl teams have shown in the past that if the talent level is there they’ll give guys multiple chances. A guy who can play on the right side in top 4 and run a PP really well is pretty valuable.

Think COL would only move Girard this offseason for quite an overpay, so the plus to Necas would need to be significantly more than a second rounder, and CAR's FO isn't into overpaying. If the cost weren't an overpay, it would be for a Girard-esque player (young, proven NHL'er, good contract for years to come) who can be a more reliable 2C than COL's current, non-Kadri options.

Yep - that's fair. Girard on his contract is super valuable so understand why it would require an overpay. This was more driven off of Lebrun's report and me trying to brainstorm who those young D could be that moved the needle if we were to trade Necas.

Trade aside - Necas in COL system with their skill & speed would probably be amazing. I'd hate to lose him because I think he probably thrives wherever he ends up going but that would be something to see. Think he fits their system perfectly.

Sometimes it can make sense to overpay, esp. for contenders - Tampa for Goodrow, Coleman, Hagel; COL for Kuemper (if he can get it back together for the rest of the scf). Not sure tho, if/when CAR will do so ... wonder tho if it might make sense so for a goal-scorer this offseason ...

Brannstrom or Ty Smith could be a buy low PMD candidates for CAR, tho maybe they'd want someone proven at this stage of contention window.
EDIT - these wouldn't be for Necas - more underperforming young defense that i could see CAR buying low on

Necas (and Gurianov, Comtois) might look great in COL's system - but the team doesn't really have the trade chips for under performing former bluechippers that they used to have ...
