Even if Petry gets a first Detroit isn't the team to do it. Specific teams who would use him on the market is Dallas or Washington someone like that. But even then I highly highly doubt a first round pick is ever going to be what they get on the market for him. Chiarot was already a dumb move for Florida and they are paying for it heavily. I highly doubt anyone flies high for Petry. Maybe a 2nd and 3rd, but I don't see him getting anymore.

Why would Detroit PAY for a declining RD who is paid $6.25M until he's 37?
Red Wing's 1st RD is Seider; 2nd RD is Hronek. Paying $6.25M for an old man at 2 or 3 RD doesn't make sense at all for them.

In the next few years the Red Wings should be playoff ready not a nursing home.

Reports have said that DET and DAL are the 2 main teams in on him.

That's Montreal media. There is no fit for him here, they're just making up destinations and chose Detroit because he's from here.

How are they paying for it? They already paid for it, a 1st rounder in 2023. Did Chiarot somehow affect the culture of Florida lmao

Because the trade market has Tyson Barrie and the free agency market after Klingberg has Justin Schultz on the right side. Petry isnt declining. 21 pts his last 30 games. I don't get where ppl keep getting this info looking at the first half of the season that was a wash for the entire team in MTL.

Detroit paid for Nick Leddy and got assets back. Paying for Jeff Petry would be expecting a decent return at some point at the TDL and a nice mentor for Simon Edvinsson. Hronek is not close to the quality of Petry.

Again, I dont see the appeal for Detroit besides the obvious but not any of you saw the appeal of Seider at 6OA. I'd trust Yzerman's opinion whom may be getting Petry at a discount. Isn't that part of what management does, taking assets that are incorrectly priced? Insiders in the know are reporting the interest so it is a fact. Maybe just maybe you should do a little digging into why..

"how are they paying for it" well let's see. 2023 First round pick in a deep draft class with someone who could have been tangibly better. All for the team to completely flop in the second round. Sounds like they are paying for it dearly.

LeBrun said “I’m told Detroit is a possible destination for Petry.” That's a very general statement and he distanced him self from it by saying "I'm told"

If this isn’t typical of the Detroit fan that hates his life and feels inadequate then I don’t know what else could be.

Players can be overpaid and less valuable than they were previously without being labeled worthless.

But again, a lot of you are projecting how you feel at your own jobs
