caps have no need for petry and would only move mantha for an obvious upgrade. dadonov is a fine player but not that

Mantha for Petry, (-$750K), Dadonov, (-$2.5M), Tuch, 3rd, 3rd

The Mantha trade was potentially the worst trade in Caps history. Moving him out would require filling needs, otherwise he will remain to try to hide the shame.

I do not think you can argue that. Martin Erat and Latta for FF?

I did say "potentially" I was going to use the Jagr to NYR trade as a counterpoint in my original post (Jagr, $20M for Carter).

The (only) argument against it being the Forsberg deal is that you didn't know what Forsberg would be. !11 overall and such, but he hadn't played in North America yet and technically it took two more seasons for him to "arrive". It is still very much up there, but there was a ? involved. It still made ZERO sense, but... there are buts.

Mantha... Mantha for Vrana straight could be argued as an edge win for Detroit. Panik's cap dump of $2.75Mx2 was probably worth a 3rd. Frankly, with Vrana's slight edge over Mantha it could have been a 4th.

Mantha for Vrana, Panik, 1st, 2nd
should have been a max of
Mantha for Vrana, Panik, 3rd

Caps easily gave away a 1st, plus a little (3rd to a 2nd) for no reason what so ever. Equivalent to trading a 1st and 3rd for nothing. Unfortunately, injuries have marred both sides of that trade. Mantha only 51 games (13-18-31), Vrana 37 games (21-9-30).
