Hypothetical Rebuild

Description
If Matthews doesn't want to resign, so we rebuild. Everyone essentially waves their trade protection to go actually compete. Keeping marner because I think he could be willing to stay through it and he'll still be great coming out of it.

Matthews returns a better package than that by himself. If your adding Rielly with him the return would be clarke, byfield, kaliyev and 3 1sts +

Matthews will want to sign in Toronto and stay in the Hockey Media Capital of the World.

Better off keeping Nylander (if he's willing to resign) and Reilly since he's locked. Marner would return a lot more and can probably sign Nylander for cheaper.

Marner is bound to take a hit in terms of production with no one to pass to if there is a full scale rebuild. While Nylander can perhaps step up since he wouldn't be the 4th option anymore.

The other option is pay Matthews, and do a quick rebuild

The return on these trades is underwhelming, might as well just let them all walk in FA if it comes down to that and continue trying to win until then.

Why? Aren't they after a RD, sure Brodie isn't a RHD but that package isn't too much to give for the stability that he can provide. They would need to move someone ofc

"I feel like Philadelphia management will try to go for it and compete when they really shouldn't."

Not much of a feeling when it's been literally said by Dave Scott and Chuck Fletcher. But if #5 overall is getting traded it's likely going to be in a deal that Flyers move back a few spots in the draft and pick up a second round pick this year at least.

I think if Nylander was offered for just 50% salary with 2 yrs left under contract, for the 5th overall pick, PHI accepts, but it shows some alarming asset management in TOR.

Most of your trades in the begining underrate what the Leaf players are worth, but your second half of trades like Seattle giving up a 2nd for UFA Kerfoot are pretty bad for the other teams, (I mean Nemeth is a pretty small cap dump but you get Chytil for Kase's rights? Kase's rights aren;t worth much. Hes damaged goods and a RFA with arbitration rights, which means he probably gets 1.8mil just to see him get concussed again)

This is a great example of what they should NOT, under any circumstances, consider doing.

Tavares isn't waiving so you can't even trade him with retention.

Blomqvist, 2nd for Tavares (-$5.5M)

Pens say very much yes and i am not sure why the Leafs would do thing.
