Take out Zadina and the value with retention is fine. Still not interested in Detroit though.
Pittsburgh is not trading 1sts.

Petry is worth a first minimum. Maybe not one from Detroit but there will be a team willing to cough one up for him.

Lol. That’s right, we are gonna go trade for Petry at 5m at the deadline and use our first and in the meantime give away our best NHL ready dman prospect! Meanwhile, we will already have a Letang replacement by the deadline obviously. So where are we gonna pull out a magical 5m from at the deadline? Go take that somewhere else lmao.

Not saying he isn't, I actually am one that really likes Petry. Just him to Detroit doesn't make sense other than his family is there.

Risto for 13th overall. Petry is better than Risto. Its the trade that gives Habs fans hopes.

Neither does the Toews trade for 2 2nds which I’ve seen quoted many times as some sort of benchmark for an elite D. That is the outlier.

Teams always overpay for RHD in the top 2 pairs. Then you account for the scarcity of the position this off-season. Petry by far is the most coveted asset unless you want to give Klingberg 8x7 (10x worse of a deal than Petry) and that’s why it’s been widely reported that 5-6 teams are after him not Tyson Barrie or itching to sign Justin Schultz.

If Yzerman gets Petry for something like this w/o paying a 1st he’s just adding to his legacy as a great GM. It’s a market deficiency to pay that kind of price that Stevie would exploit to a T.

There’s obviously something to what was reported. I never saw Dtown as an option but here we are.

Retention kind of pointless, Wings have all the cap space in the world so Zadina isn’t happening. Don’t want Petry either… I understand it’s been brought up in the media, it’s just not a good move for the Wings right now. What has anyone seen this past season from the Wings that warrants giving up futures for an aging D? I get the flip intent, doubt he excels on the Wings tho. We lucked out with Leddy value last year, seems like a similar approach.

Penguins don’t have the cap and will be buying at the TDL. If you do the math. The Habs taking 1.25M a year saves the Wings from taking 2.25M a year in retention instead of 1M as the math shows here. So being pointless is actually quite wrong.

But we’re paying for retention when there isn’t a need to. And this trade again screems Leddy 2.0 where I am extremely surprised we recouped the pick for him. One more season of the same, Petry loses all value he has especially with his age. I find it hard to believe he’ll perform better with the Wings and recoup the pick or receive a slight upgrade. Not seeing it as a slight upgrade tho with Zad+a 2nd+a 3rd being traded for Petry especially considering I don’t feel that is accurate of Petry’s value.

Joseph, 1st for Petry (-$1M, -$1.25M)

I do not think that the Penguins do this. Were Rutherford still there, maybe.

I think you'd probably place the waterboy as an untouchable. Wings fans calling Petry trade a joke yet saying Zadina is untouchable is some of the funniest comedy. Really you guys need to do comedy having this lack of self awareness would be funny.

Let me re-phrase, Wings are not trading Zadina for an old, overpaid D-man. Nobody is saying Zadina is untouchable, but Detroit is not selling low on him until they get a look at him under the new coach. If a team wants Zadina they'd have to give a 1st or a young top 6 player. That may be considered an overpayment right now, but thats what it would take for Detroit to consider trading him.
