Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

With $7,621,031 cap space remaining, I decided to sign Vatrano instead of Copp or Trocheck. There is also the option to trade for a center like Yanni given our plethora of assets sitting in the minors. For the sake of not knowing the trade market right now, I decided to sign Vatrano with the remaining cap. While this team is thin at center, if the kids breakout, it won't matter that much until the TDL. Vatrano also may sign a team-friendly deal given that he stated he wants to stay and loves NYR. Something under 3.2m I would designate as team-friendly. Possibly under 3m. Pretty solid base for the start of the 2022-23 season with 20m in cap space for the 23-24 off-season.

Whatever plan NYR go forward with- next summer’s cap crunch has to be a big consideration….
I’m not saying the plan here is terrible- but it does leave a big issue next summer- roughly 20M to put another 10 or 11 players under contract- and a few guys will most likely command sizeable raises. So if this is the route to go- maybe Vatrano on a 1 year deal??

Right. If they give Laf PP1 time, he’ll pot 30- not unreasonable given how awesome their first unit and that he had 19 at even strength. Once that happens he may command 5M+, which makes the crunch even worse

For sure, but it’s interesting to see a team built well in all areas besides arguably the second most important position in the game

Hindsight’s always 20/20- Fox wasn’t in play at the time. Same
can be said for Kreider. Do you give him 8x6.5 if you know you’re getting Lafreniere? Probably not
