Unlikely the Jets go backwards and trade their center depth away for an expensive winger.

No chance Wheeler waives for Jersey

This is some very wishful thinking. Both CBJ and NJ say no. Not to mention wheeler isn’t waiving for NJ.

I think Laine is happy in Columbus and the path to a multi-year extension is still there.

- If a multi-year extension is agreed to soon, then everyone is happy.
- If Laine accepts the QO when tendered, then it is not ideal for CBJ but they can still work on a longer term deal during the season.
- If Laine signs an offer sheet, then CBJ can either match or take picks.
- If there is an arbitration filing, then they can still work on a deal.

So long as the parties are moving closer on a deal, then it should work out for them.

Edit: corrected arb statement

- If Laine files for arbitration, then they can still work on a deal and in the worst case scenario CBJ selects a two year term.
- CBJ will not file for arbitration as that would result in a one year term.

So long as the parties are moving closer on a deal, then it should work out for them.

I think it would only be a one year term in arbitration, no matter who files. Since Laine only has one year of team control left. Isn't that how it works?

You are probably right about that. I have corrected it now, thanks.

I don't see why CBJ would add #6 when giving up a player that is 24 for a player that is 29 when they are mid-way through a retool.

If Laine wants $8 million for 8 years I can't see CBJ having a problem just signing him to that.

The ship has sailed on Patty sadly. Columbus isn't trading him. He's getting extended long term there.

Devils would not ask for Wheeler for 2nd overall.
Hellebuyck, Connor, Ehlers are probably the only three names from Winnipeg we would put into consideration.
