Description
Interesting concept to pay Arizona to buy out keith as actual cashe is $500k for 1 year and a cap hit to get to floor for $4.5m....Keith can then re-sign with OIlers for 1M so actual salary remains the same..

Not sure the payment to be made to do so, but absolutely an avenue to explore as both teams get what they want from it as it is no secret AZ is taking contracts with cap hits but low salary still

ARZ buys out Keith as it gets a 4.5M cap hit but only $500k actual cash. Keith agrees to trade so he signs back in EDM for $1M 1 year deal so his actual dollars are the same and he doesnt actually play in ARZ

Is that not pretty cut and dry cap circumvention after the Brooks Orpik incident?

did they change CBA after that to address....not sure on that, would make sense they addressed it, but if not, something that needs to be explored

I think they put a rule in after Orpik, I could be completely wrong. Flames had some issues with it as well when they bought out Stone at 3.5M then re signed him a month later to the league minimum so really none of it makes sense. Only reason I think it's a problem is because I asked if the same could be done for a guy like Monahan but it was shut down pretty quick due to cap rules.

There was some discussion that Mark Stone was a compliance buyout??? so that is why it was different than a regular buyout

Not sure but was an interesting concept if true

no matter how many times Oilers fans suggest “a couple b-level assets and zack kassian for connor brown”, it’s never going to be a good trade
