My only reason to even think about this trade is that foresberg could walk, Nashville gets nylander to replace him, and in a year or a little more than that, Askarov breaks in and their goalie problem is instantly solved.

What needs to be changed here?

The trade just shouldn't exist because they aren't going to trade him. Without Saros Nashville isn't a playoff team so Nylander does literally nothing for them. Knies is a decent prospect but not nearly good enough, and a late 1st is well just that

If Nashville wanted to reset and move Saros, it would signal they were trying to get younger and cheaper. Nylander doesn't accomplish that.

IF, BIG if, Nashville wanted to move him, you're looking at a package of futures and draft picks. Potentially something looking like 22 1st, Sandin, Knies (maybe, prefer somebody else obviously) and maybe another middle draft pick. No sense for Nashville to move on Nylander, and no sense for Toronto to move him if they were going to put all their chips down and look for a top-level goalie.

So in this scenario- by trading Saros, Nashville comits to rebuild/re-tool, causing Forsberg, and any other UFA's, to not return or come aboard.

Then, Askarov finally breaks in after a year or 2-- as Nylander expires & walks.

So, for the long term plan, it boils down to Saros (for 3 seasons @ a good cap hit)-- for a good college prospect and the 25th overall pick. Really banking on striking gold on both of these acquired players-- AND Askarov has to pan out to a legit top goalie (which goalie prospects rarely do)
